When you got to the Varsity football team from JV or Freshman teams - your initiation might be a jock fight.
Hands wrapped in the always plentiful athletic tape. Usually in a fist - like a mummy.
You in one of the big football player jockstraps.
On the big practice wrestling mat in the gym basement.
Fighting a Senior by pushing, shoving or knocking him out of the circle. Uh, never the Quarterback.
The Senior might pull your jockstrap off if a loss seemed eminent.
Very seldom did someone punch somebody after a tooth was knocked out a few times.
The football coach “never knew about this” - though he been a student there 12 years before.
It sounded milder than some fraternity initiations that I have heard.
Or some of the hazing in British private schools.
