I got my first singlet when they were these heavy duty nylon double layered things that really had no stretch. High schools issued. It was one that was used. Then on my way to college I drove across country and wrestled a few guys from the ads in some newsletter I used to get in the mail. I won 6 singlets traveling from California to Boston. Ended up selling those singlets on eBay a couple of years ago for a great deal of money.
As a spandex aficionado I bought my first singlet at the age of 22, but for the initial many years I only used them for hiking and running, and some times also for mountaineering. It was not before I started wrestling at the age of 50 I discovered that singlets were excellent for that activity too - so now I work my way through my big boxes of singlets and tights which I have bought through the years, and still buy!
