So many people have some type of back issue. Whether it be from a herniated disc or a pinched nerve, either way many people suffer. Developing the Core will help stabilize this issue. Wrestlers all want to be able to control their opponent, The power for the legs can't happen without the hip flexors and the and the entire Core Group all working together. Boxers can't effectively deliver proper punches with out it either. Swimmers, and Runners all perform better with a strong core. For those of you who are into taking body punches, the tougher your muscles are, the less it takes to tighten up and the more punishment you can take.
I consider the CORE to include the pelvic floor muscles, transverses abdominis, internal and external obliques, rectus abdominis, erector spinae and diaphragm.

There are two devices out there that really support core conditioning
The Balance Disc engages your core muscles while sitting and can also be used for strengthening exercises in or out of your chair. By controlling the firmness of the cushion, you can adapt it to your fitness needs and sitting comfort. The original exercise balance device, DynaDisc is an inflatable pillow capable of withstanding 2000lbs/sq. inch. It's smooth on one side and textured with pegs on the other. Dynadisc improves posture, alignment and creates a more challenging workout in less time.
The other one is the Bosu Ball. In my opinion the Bosu is a balance disk on steroids. I use them both and suggest them to all who I work with. They make you have to work to control your balance while doing CORE toughening. It actually has a lot to do with where you position your butt when doing leg raises and crunches. It make you have to work the tough transvers sheath deeper than just on a horizontal plane. In other words you get a better workout for the time spent. Several members on this site are using one of the two for their CORE toughening. This is just a safe way to maximize your workout time and get a real tough body in the process. For the long haul, as you grow older you will have less back and walking issues if you start now.

Have two Bosu[tm] here in the matroom and my bedroom. Nifty devices, especially for toughening below the navel – have your butt on top, heels & shoulders on the floor, doing crunches /or for full sit ups with no stress on the tailbone. Great for balance doing side crunches. Great to pound those abs while you are at it.

Concerned about sliding off? No hassle if you shed the clothing, as the skin loves to adhere better than being textiled. (some of these exercise garments are more slippery than wet ice) Thing to try for balance – close the eyes and alternate between negative grade: crunches, left, and right side crunches, changing side/center helter skelter with each and every rep.
