Definitely enjoyed the match I had with Tanker over in Manchester (although a good while ago) and would be up for more when we get the chance.
It was during a group meet, so didn't have a lot of time overall, but found Tanker to be a very technical and capable subs wrestler, knows his stuff and keeps it safe. Would recommend to novices and experts alike. Cheers!
Met Tanker for a match on an evening of a busy Monday ! What a great oponente ! First thing you notice is how big he is and how powerful his arms are . We had a few submission rounds and then a few mma rounds . He sure can give and take a good punch ! After that we decided to train a bit and I had the chance to show him some techniques ! Can't wait to get to roll with him !!
MMA .......Not something I ever imagined doing, but yesterday morning I found myself agreeing to do light MMA ( strikes with an open hand rather than fists, use of knees & elbows is also permissible) with Brazilwrestler aka Ricardo. We were meeting at 7pm at Iain Scot's and throughout the day I was haunted by thoughts of the dental work & broken nose that might ensue from my little adventure!
In civvies BW is a cuddly bear rather like Paddington( another South American) & is a very sweet guy. But once he strips off and you take in the massive, sleek arms, thighs & chest & maybe exchange a playful hug a very different type of bear comes to mind. Also read his recommendations which are awesome.
But my fears were groundless. I was in the safe and understanding hands of a born & kindly teacher who really wanted me to enjoy the experience & convert me to his sport. Submission wrestling against a tough opponent is the most exhausting form of exercise I had encountered till yesterday. MMA has the extra dimension of strikes to deflect. But with BW wrestlers encouragement I gave it my best shot (did not want to have any regrets afterwards). I got cuffed round the head & kneed in the first minute & lost any inhibitions about dishing them out myself, both of us were soon sweating buckets, gasping for air, & I soon got tired & gave in to his subs to get a water break.
"Not too much water between rounds & you're giving in far to easily " He reproved me after a couple of rounds. You need to get into fight mode, trash talk me, so eyeball to eyeball I told him to enjoy being champion as he never would be again. Daft though it sounds, it really focused me , really wanted to fight it out. Didn't panic & give in so readily. Got him down to the floor and got on top a couple of times , which may not sound a lot, but you haven't fought him
Never considered myself a fighter & I'm not pretending that I'm am anywhere near his ability.... In a real fight I would have been stretchered out of the ring within 5 minutes! But I surprised myself. Prior to the fight I had imagined a couple of blows to the head & I would have had enough. But I want to do it some more.
"For next time you need to get some gloves & see your dentist about a gum shield so it fits properly. You always should have a gum shield even for wrestling"
He said. There will be a a next time I said, thrilled & thought I'd share the advice!
Afterwards I had a real buzz, really loved it & I didn't expect to.
Want to do it again, but probably only with him as I trust him.
Of my past opponents very few could beat him, possibly none in the UK & Ireland
Met Tanker at a group meet in Walthamstow, I knew I would struggle being lighter but Tanker looked after me when we wrestled. Recommended
09th October 2017
Great to do a pro match with this famous wrestler in the ring , he is a true gentleman in every sense of the word and great to lock up again after a long while, I say a true gentleman but in the ring he is a brute lol but hey it was fun nice headlocks, slams ,one of our true heros in our community of wrestling .long may he reign BIG RECOMMENDATION from me .
I have known Tanker for a number of years, and wrestled on a couple of occasions hes the gentleman giant , a good friend who knows hows to wrestle , good fun on the mats , we met last time april 9th 2016 at pippas wrestlng factory, and I gave him a run for his money, see you in the future dave ,
Known Ben quite a few years now.
Nice friendly guy. Had a very enjoyable pro session in the ring with him. His training with Iain Scot is really paying off. A must opponent for anyone interested in this skilled and underated art.
Ben's a nice guy, friendly & easy to talk too. A veteran of the British circuit with a lot of experience. In his photos he looks a tough even mean dude and he will deliver a tough & competitive bout. But have no fears he is safe & sane. Def recommendation.
I have had the privilege of wrestling Tanker on several occasions over the years. He's a very tough opponent on the mats (and usually beats me) but a gentleman off them and is always up for a stimulating chat — an intellectual and physical workout.
Have known Leanmachine_BE for several years now and am pleased to see him finally on Meetfighters.
He is probably the most elegant, fastidious ( At least one change of gear per meet) and erudite wrestler I have met. The perfect gentleman if you like, always pleasant and courteous.
Despite our size difference we have some good scraps over the years, he is a fit and tenacious opponent with a finely honed physique.
Do meet him if you get the chance
met Tanker at the Manchester event on Saturday. Enjoyed a session on the mats where this friendly guy, off the mats, was able to put me in several submission holds including my first boston crab. I'll need to build on my strength and technique before we meet again. Very considerate and safe with the obvious experience and weight advantage. Look forward to trying again.
We just had a short roll at a meet at Pippa's, but Tanker is definitely a guy that's worth meeting.
Uses his weight to his advantage and he's not quite as slow as you might expect him to be! While rolling, he's always very conscious about the safety of both him and even more so his opponent!
Besides the mat he's always a great guy to talk to and have a laugh with!
Do not miss him if you get the chance, you'll regret it!
Ahem yes we did have rather a short roll. Someone (Not me) seemed rather out of breath & muttered something about my "veight" being a problem & he needed to stop! To be fair he was also worried about an old knee injury.
Am delighted that I am not as slow as one might expect!
Always a pleasure to to wrestle such an accomplished opponent as Philipp, very fast & agile, but felt totally safe with him. Was totally outclassed and spent my time on the defensive. All my attacks were swiftly blocked & matched with his own counter. Was pleased with my defence (would have been totally disorientated by him until quite recently & thrown in the towel). Or perhaps being a nice guy he was just wrestling at my level!
ANYWAY do meet him if you get the chance, lovely guy, gsoh (As you can see lol) fantastic legs (especially the thighs)!
After meeting Tanker last year I knew I had to have a match with him again. I had no chance. Big solid and strong it was only a matter of time before I was tapping out. Although Tanker is a powerhouse he is safe and sane and made me feel relaxed at all times. I'm away to eat a few more calories and bulk up for round 3!
Good to see this cheeky wee pup back !
Read a recommendation on here a few weeks ago which described another wrestlers jokes as "shite". Knew it could only be one person even though the profile name & location, were different & there was no face shot.
Since we last met the wrestler formerly known as Dundee wrestle (or something like that ) has slimmed down to a swimmer type build, is much stronger & fitter & has some really good moves up his sleeve. However this afternoon he was up against a bevy of bigger beefier beauties in the shape of Vanman, Toetotoe & myself, which at the end of the session left him looking a bit shell shocked & crushed. He did well. Great lad , good sense of humour & great wrestler, who you will be totally safe with. Till next next time B...bag!
I've seen Tanker over the years at many meetings in Manchester and I wondered if I would ever get the opportunity to fight him. The opportunity came and I am glad I did.
Tanker is super strong and when he got me on the mat I should have tapped straightaway - I was going nowhere. Maybe pride or stubbornness wouldn't allow me to, so I kept trying. Eventally worn down by his skill and his strength the eventual happened.
Also noticable about him is he is willing to take on anyone, from the lightest to the heaviest and in watching his matches with lightweights, he has NEVER used his weight against them, so those lighter than him - be afraid of his skill do not be afraid of him being heavier than you!
I am so glad I took the opportunity when it came and I hope to fight him again. Off the mats he is really great company and fun to be with. I do enjoy meeting up with him.
I would not hesitate in recommending Tanker to anyone.
Known Herald a few years now, Although only got to wrestle him for the first time last year. He is built to wrestle and is a strong ,skilled tenacious, satisfying opponent , totally safe and sane. Physique & looks wise a cross between Mick McManus & Mick McMichael.
Off the mats a nice friendly approachable guy who is easy to talk too.
Heard about this guy for quite awhile. Finally got to meet him.
Tanker is a powerhouse no doubt with a lot of experience and skill.
Never had a match like it. We had two separate battles and neither of us could get anything on each other. Evening matched both times. Think it was a mixture of equal strength and respect.
Off the mats he was a pleasure to chat with. Very relaxed and easy going. Had a quick tag match with him which sadly for our opponents they got taken apart.
Definitely up for meeting you again mate. Next time hopefully one of us can get a sub off each other.
This ex rugby player( has the thighs to prove it) is one of the best kept secrets on meetfighters (If your into heavyweight sub matches put him on your wish list)!
Met this afternoon at Pippas at a session organised by Vanman & Subwrestlerfife (who we later thanked by squashing them in a tag match) !
Taller & more powerfully built than his photographs suggest, he is fit , strong & skilled with excellent stamina. We were perfectly matched I.E neither could get the upper hand (Or even a headlock) really enjoyed it.
Luke is a nice friendly guy, who looks out for his opponents is safe & sane. Hope we meet again
I really struggled against this guy.
He has a massive amount of strength and also a height advantage over me.
Very hard to throw and he is able to power through/out of most of my holds.
I think I may have spotted his weak spot but I left it too late to take full advantage. Definite recommend and he was superb with the other guy who was carrying and injury on alternate arms.
I would almost write the same recommendation for Vanman that he did for me!
Vey strong guy, with a judo background , who has a trained fighters instinctive feel for what to do in attack or defence & seamlessly does it. I held my own in the first session, but in the subsequent 2 rounds he was slowly relentlessly grinding me down. As regards my alleged height advantage I would say he has the ideal wrestlers build.
Brian is a nice guy, safe & sane. No hesitation in recommending him. Happy to meet again.
3 years on from our first meet and several matches later. Brian is one of the most genuine, humorous & challenging heavyweight wrestlers you can meet on here, who also looks good in trunks! Always enjoy our matches & never know which way their going to go.
Thanks Tanker for the kind recommendation. A genuine guy who is a great wrestler his frame suits the style of the old brit pro. Safe and sane for any jobber and a good grapple for you big guys.
Oh my this is one of the all time greats of British wrestling, so pleased he is back on here! We go way back to the mid noughties, one of my earliest opponents. Great that he has reverted to the Merseywrestle name too ( wish dadwrestle would go back to being Maulerpaul )!
He co organised 2 Manchester Mayhems, amongst the best ever events I have attended back in 2009/10. (Be great if you resurrected those bud btw lol)
Tough skilled wrestler and a nice guy to boot, jobbers you will be totally safe with him! Has bulked up heavyweight status and it really suits him.
Hope we can fight again soon
First came across this guy in a BG East video long before I started to actually wrestle. Remember thinking wistfully love to wrestle him in pro gear in a ring. Well dreams come true & a few years later I have done just that several times and also been coached by him.
Iain is a nice friendly guy with one of the best wrestling set ups in the UK.
A very tough opponent, never come close to getting the better of him , too fast, skilled , fit & strong as well as totally safe & sane.
If you are in London , do give him a shout!
A fun guy to wrestle. Strong, capable and a good sense of humour. Has the right level of aggression for a competitive match especially between two gentlemen who may have just edged out of the first flush of youth...
We have met three times and never went away disappointed.
He makes our encounters sound much more serious than they actually were. Not a difficult guy to recommend.
One of my all time favourite opponents.
This is one tough fukka, you really know you have been in a fight afterwards. We have met 3 times , 2 draws & one occasion when he pasted me. But don't let that put you off he is always safe & sane
Very strong guy who comes at you remorselessly, he is also slightly taller , which I find tricky. Takes his wrestling very seriously, when he gave me a pasting he told me afterwards he had spent the previous week in the gym preparing for our bout, to the extent he was afraid he might have overdone it.
He is reliable & out of the ring a nice guy , with a great & dark sense .
P.S In the light of Quinn's last paragraph I would like to state besides being a serious wrestling match they really are quite hilarious as well.
Had the chance to wrestle during a meet in Manchester. Tanker is big, strong and knows how to stay on top. Was a great challenge trying to outwrestle him, which went exactly as you'd expect. Looking forward to having another go at wrestling him again but with more time allowing.
A pleasure to meet this very nice, friendly, good looking young professional wrestler, who has a good, but cheeky sense of humour. (Calling me Grandpa if you please) ! Lol
Was flattered to get 2 matches with him. Its always good to test yourself against a "pro" and Imo we were well matched. Fit &skilled can take everything you throw at him, as well as safe & sane. (I.e won't pile drive you)! What more could you want ? (Apart from a rematch)!
Tanker - what a guy! We had a brilliant, short but sweet round at Pippas and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it!
He has a great beefy build and good height to go with it, he is experienced and an absolute gent on and off the mats.
It seems virtually everyone on here knows him and he's got a great reputation in the wrestling world... also he looks great in the gear!
After our round we had a good chat and I can say as far as I'm concerned he is a 5 star gent! Will be great to catch up at another meet, feels like I have known him for years! Very welcoming and friendly...Thanks again mate and hope to see you soon 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
As soon as he sauntered through the door at Pippa's yesterday I knew this was an opponent like no other I had met. Bulging biceps & thighs, his whole body radiated strength & power. You could tell this was a real fighter. a king of the jungle, who feared neither man nor beast. I was excited & could't wait to wrestle him. But I was also nervous, like death I hoped it would't be to painful
I should also say he is an incredibly nice friendly down to earth guy, who happily chatted and coached anyone who wanted too between victims.
Think he has a background in MMA, rugby & is a powerlifter.
Our actual wrestle was a bit of a blur. First we had a gentle warm up, getting a feel for one another, then we moved to submission. Was hit with incredible force(Like a truck), grabbed the most vice like grip I have ever encountered think I was finished of in choke or was it an arm bar.
But totally safe & sane opponent. Top recommendation. Hope we can do it again. This could be the toughest wrestler on the British circuit.
(Very sorry for letting you wait so long for the recommendation )
It was in May at Pipas in Manchester. It was my first time at the meeting. I was very excited. I was just still changing clothes when Dave talked to me and invited me to fight in a private room. This monument of a strong ,hairy mature man asked me for a fight. There was no time for fear or thinking about , I agreed his challenge. What a great luck I did. Dave is such a strong guy ,knowing the ropes and a very good fighter. But caring and respecting his opponent. I felt very safe in his strong arms and had much fun. After our first fight we both wanted to have another one in the end of the day. Now I had time for getting fear. But now I knew him a little bit, that made me feel better. I lost the second fight, and I don't think he needed all he is able to, to win. But I didn't felt like a looser, more like someone who learnt and enjoyed the time I spent with this great guy. Very high recommendation to Dave.
Thank you and all the other guys I met on that day.
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord your God in in vain is something I try to observe at all times......
But OMG ....Michael is such a magnificent beast ....and in a singlet too.. ...it takes a big man to wear a singlet well ( In my opinion ) I was beside myself with excitement when I first saw him at the group meet on Saturday and I knew I would not be able to think of anything else till we
had wrestled. So I broke with my normal routine of a first match warm up with an obliging jobber and suggested we wrestle straightway. Lady Luck was smiling, a private room(unusually )was available .
It was intoxicating to fight with someone who is similar in stats and ability, him taller, me heavier. When we locked up I took in how strong he was, I was a bit worried, but knowing if he got me in a sub hold it was gonna hurt, I dug deep was determined not to succumb .
We were well matched. We both took it steady in the first bout , then later in the second one we really went for it. Full on sub. ( But safely )
Need I say total recommendation, A nice friendly warm hearted bear with a good sense of humour.
Have had a few matches with Tanker and every one has been a great grapple. This big bear of a man is strong, fast and a skilled wrestler. He's also a really fun, friendly guy and I totally recommend him. Hope for plenty more matches!
I had previously written Neil a recommendation but it seems to have disappeared. He is a nice friendly guy, we are well matched size wise and had a number of very enjoyable scraps over the years. Think its fair to say he has got more competitive over the years so watch out when your on the mats with him. You will be totally safe with him and he is a reliable guy to meet.
My first opponent of the day and first match in a very long time, what a way to get back into action! Fantastic match with a great guy. Can't recommend Dave highly enough, regardless of your size your bound to have a top class match with this gent.
Had one of my best matches ever with Twister at Pippas yesterday at Tynesider's meet. On paper we are a total mismatch, but with his skill & agility, making up for my size advantage, we had an intense & satisfying grapple. He is a really nice guy to boot , totally safe. Hope we can do it again.
Had a nice give and take Pro style match Tanker is also a skilled Sub Wrestler. Friendly to talk to on and off the mat, I will wrestle him again at another meet..
After posing for some pro style pictures in the ring at Pippas yesterday, Tanker and decided to get to grips on the mats. He is strong and knows his stuff, is safe and sane and looks great in his pro gear. In spite of our considerable size and weight difference he allowed our match to flow and although he won our grapple I didn't feel as if I had been squashed.
Off the mats Tanker is a pleasant, easy going guy and I recommend you meet him.....whatever size you are!
Tornado is well named he is very fast, agile & dangerous. (In the sense that he can get a quick sub on the unwary before they know it, but is totally safe & sane).
His body is a temple of which he takes great care, in fantastic shape, all nicely in proportion.
He said initially I was to big for him to wrestle, but then challenged me to a sub bout, on the mats he was fearless, strong & skilled , had a real fight on my hands.
Off the mats a nice friendly guy easy to talk to. Definite recommendation & happy to fight again.
Nice people, a real challenge if you want to test yourself, you will need great skills to survive, a great day during the wrestling event, thanks!
Met Juan at the Mat room rumble on Saturday. He is a tough guy, very skilled , amazing stamina, safe & sane. This is a man to meet if you really want to test yourself. He did an awesome demonstration fight with Josh aka Ultimate Muscle at the above event.
Nice quiet guy off the mats . Def recommend .
Our paths crossed again( 3rd time I think) In the past I have been both intimidated an bamboozled by his strength skill and fitness. However yesterday I had a word with myself and did better. Though he got 3 subs to my nil points !
I would have gone on and done more but Juan said he needed a drink (or perhaps had just had enough of me lol) Very nice fella recommended
Strong powerful. Knows his stuff inside out. I had a great time being heeled by him.
Met Gramps at long last! Unfortunately it was a short bout, but still a good roll nonetheless. Felt I had to go easy on him, what with his age and all ;)
Joking - it was a good tussle. Doesn't have that bad strength on him either considering his age :P
Finally got to meet the man who has been calling me "Gramps" for the last few years in chat!
This cheeky young pup arrived straight from a shot putt competition at pippas in Manchester at Surrey 71 meet yesterday afternoon.
As a wrestler as one would expect of a shot putter he has above average strength& we had quite a long drawn out satisfying grapple and I think without giving to much away "Gramps" struck a blow for the over 50's against the young guns brigade.
YS is a nice friendly guy who it was a pleasure to meet, safe & sane, hope we can do it again
It was a pleasure meeting and wrestling this giant of a man. Would happily do it again.
Very nice, friendly, good looking muscular guy who always has a smile on his face. (Kind of reminded me of a fox whose just seen a chicken coop with the door open lol )
A very fit strong skilled wrestler. Really enjoyed our match. He is safe & sane. I think he could probably take on the best and give them a run for their money, but will will tone it down for less skilled or less experienced wrestlers.
Hope we can meet again!
Tanker I mean what a name to have because that's what it felt like I was battling against a Tank.
He power and his skill is just Awesome he did message me a while ago and I got nervous to reply as he is a powerhouse but seriously off the mats he is a Gentle Giant so friendly and very chilled out.
I would recommend anyone to battle this guy he is just awesome.
Thanks Tanker and I look forward to round 2 soon.
I was nervous about meeting Poni. He looks so big, fit, strong,& mean, is in his prime and plays rugby.
Now he's added wrestling to his repertoire . Gulp!
I thought he probably had't replied to my earlier message of mine because he thought I wasn't good enough!
However in reality he is the nicest, friendliest, funniest, most chilled out, most self effacing alpha male you could wish to meet and a fine figure of a man to boot.
As a wrestler he is very fit and strong, & we had a good scrap. Had him in submission holds a couple of times, but the big boy was just to powerful & I could't make him tap. He got 2 subs out of me.
Totally recommended Poni, safe & sane hope we can meet again
A proper Yorkshire Gent!!
Tanker is one of the nicest guys you can meet!
He's got good strength and skill set!
Shouldn't be missed, comes highly recommended!!
Always good to meet a fellow Yorkshireman Everyone knows we are the nicest, kindest, most generous, warm hearted people imaginable !
(Not to mention our gsoh)
Lee is no exception, a nice guy and perfect host, who created a relaxed friendly atmosphere. This morning I didn't feel like wrestling(Had a cold and a long standing knee injury )Was tempted to cancel but as it was Lee''s first event didn't want to let him down. Really glad I didn't its been one of my best ever events.
As a wrestler he is a tall well built guy, very strong who looks out for his opponents . Loved our bout, we were well matched. Just the right mixture of fun and competitive wrestling,
hopefully we can do it again. If you get the chance do wrestle him. Totally safe and sane. Top recommendation.
Tanker is the gentle giant of this site.
the first time i saw him in his wrestling gear ( long boots and speedo) i immediately had the idea to run away!!!!
But he use his big body in a very kind way, taking care and attention to his opponent.
He is expert, tecnical and skilled : all the thing you hope to find in your opponent...it is not a case he has met so many opponets until now.
We wrestled for quite 2 years ( taking some breaks to talk and know better each other) in the ring in Grove Park, a place i heard so many times but i was never been there until last friday. ( thanks!!!).
After we went to take dinner togheter in an italian restaurant in central London , close to Leicester square.
Here i had te opportunity to discover he is not only the perfect opponent, but a wonderful man.....
I liked so much the time we spent togheter and i hope that , if destiny will be good with me, i can meet him in the future again, again and again.
Ciao my Friend!
ovvoiusly for me he is very HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!!!!!
Spent a magical afternoon & evening with Stoker last friday at the Grove park ring & later at a very nice Italian restaurant in Covent Garden.
Stoker is a typical Neapolitan, friendly, exuberant, kind hearted, great sense of humour, very sexy, a good fighter and a real gentleman. Both of us were nursing injuries so the match itself was a fairly restrained affair...
In the run up to meeting him I began to wonder if I had bitten off more than I could chew. His profile photos show an awesome looking man bulging with muscles & he he used to play water polo (I think he said to a professional standard). He is also from Naples a city with a tough reputation... My imagination got to work....perhaps he is mafioso ?
(No that's Sicily, Camorra is Naples & no he isn't that either) .... Don't kill me I pleaded in one of our pre match messages!
However as you see I survived , ( he is totally safe & sane) we were well matched & did a mixture of give & take & sub, Stoker is a fit strong guy with good technical skills & stamina. A tough guy. He had been in hospital the week before so when he is fully fit am guessing he is a real handful.
But to be honest the wrestling was secondary to chatting to my new friend, he is very easy to talk to & has had a very interesting life & is quite hilarious!
After our match we when back to London, as we came out of Leicester SquareTube station we passed the Hippodrome Casino, which Stoker had frequented in the 80's when it was a disco, rubbing shoulders with George Michael & Bananarama & the like. (Bit different to my 80's experience)
We dined at Stokers suggestion at the Rossopomodoro an Italian restaurant from Naples. The food & wine were excellent, as were the incredibly good looking & friendly staff (also from Napoli) & when they discovered they had one of their own in the restaurant we had a succession of homesick Neapolitans reminiscing about their beloved home city.
Stoker is a special guy, I am sure we are going to meet again many times in the future. I will be gutted if we don't. If you get the chance you should too!
Most of you will know what I'm talking about, when I tell you I've just met an incredibly handsome, smart, genuine, friendly, warm and skilled man in Tanker; wow!!
Tanker is one of those men whom I've been chatting with for a long, long time.. We've spent hours in conversation, leading up to a meet in his home November 2016, before the Manchester meet.
I was proud to be invited to his house - and let me tell you, Tanker is an amazing host. So generous, helpful and wants only the best for his guests.
So, a little background information before we get to the wrestling part..
I became a proud member of this site, some few months ago. One of the first profiles that immediately caught my attention, was no one less than Tanker. At the time, I didn't dare send him a message... Silly me..
So, i kept checking out his profile (some might even refer to it as stalking) from time to time, then one day.. "You have a new message!" and boy, was it none other than Tanker himself! Eagerly, I opened the message which wrote "Anytime you want a wrestling lesson let me know…"
Mind you, guess who gave who a lesson in the end..! More on that later.
From that point on, we connected very well, as mentioned above. We talked back and forth about the upcoming "wrestling lesson" he was gonna give me, and who was gonna win... One of his later messages did read "Well one thing I have learnt in a wrestling match is size isn't everything, speed & agility & skill can even things up quite a bit."
(ask him whether he was right or not). It all lead up to an eventful meet in November, 2016.
It's seldom I find myself so eager and excited to meet someone, as I was prior to meeting Tanker. The downside of having expectations this high, is how disappointed one can be, if the actual meet is not everything one had expected or hoped for.. Let me assure you; Tanker was everything I had expected and more!
After a short ride from the train station (from which he picked me up - gentleman), back to his house, we went out for a lovely dinner, in great company. The next morning, he made English breakfast! ‘’Exquisite’’ is the appropriate word here..
We got in the car, drove off… Destination Pippas! After a 2 hour drive, we arrived at this ‘’super’’ dodgy back alley.. Was I glad to be accompanied by a big man? Yes. Would I have found it on my own? Most definitely not.
Now, to the wrestling part...
We got into gear, got hold of a room, and everything was set for our long awaited match.. We went at each other, though somewhat crippled by various injuries, and I quickly realized how outclassed I was in terms of pure strength. I didn’t stand much chance.. Tanker is as strong as he looks. We rolled around for 20 minutes, not too intense.. We look back on it as a warm up for our next meet… I will give it to him though - his knee really didn’t look good, but the next time we meet.. No such excuse will be accepted!!
Tanker is very safe on the mats, and will go at any rate, and as rough or as easy as his opponent wants to.
I am so glad I have met Tanker, and I’m ‘’very’’ proud and honoured to be able call him a close friend. It’s funny how I joined the site just 9 days prior to him deciding to stay.. Him deciding not to leave, now seems like serendipity. Imagine if he’d actually left before we got the chance to connect.. I dare not think about it.
I really can’t recommend anyone more than I recommend you to meet with Tanker. I ‘’urge’’ you too.. He is the prime example of the perfect meet, in every respect. It also helps that he’s very handsome for someone in his 60s (whoops - 50s. My mistake). I will give an update on future wrestling encounters.. Our first meet was only the first of what I’m hoping will be many joyful experiences in the future.. So long, dear friend.
TANKER AND THE YOUNG NORSE GOD
About 6 months ago, a young Norse God with classic, clean cut, nordic good looks (blonde hair, blue eyes) visited my profile. We both had a few more looks, intrigued I sent him a cheeky message offering him a wrestling lesson!
So began a very special friendship that last month led to Norway’s very own Prince Charming staying with me overnight & the next day the two of us went to Pippas in Manchester to a group wrestle.
He is a lovely guy, kind polite, thoughtful, easy going, with a great sense of humour, a considerate appreciative guest who always laughs at my jokes. We can talk for hours, time flies, its never boring. What more can you ask for in a friend?
He also speaks & writes English beautifully (see the recommendations he has written).
Couple of points to mention if you are honoured with a vist; separate hot & cold water taps in your bathroom, or wearing outside shoes in the house are a no no in Norway & you may incur the wrath of the god! You will be told politely but sternly, “dude that’s crazy”!
Also, don’t stint on the mirrors, at least one in every room if possible. Its hard work being beautiful, your appearance must checked at all times to make sure everything is perfect. Give the poor guy a hand!!
Now when it comes to wrestling, a different side to our lovely new friend emerges. Like a proper Viking, he is a tough & fearless fighter, nothing less than complete victory will do. No quarter will be given or expected. He may look cute enough to be in a Disney film, but he can take care of himself, and all he is thinking about is taking care of you! Remember the handsome prince was always a good fighter as well as a looker! (All those distressed damsels to save, dragons to slay etc).
He is a very fit strong guy, background in gymnastics, regular early morning runs, swimming in fjords, hiking in the mountains, wrestling polar bears, eats raw whalemeat, washed down with reindeer blood for the iron. (some of the above might not be entirely true lol).
When you first lock up, you know he is going to be strong, but the amount of strength in that willowy frame still comes as a bit of a shock. He attacks with speed & confidence, an impressive range of submissions are applied with clinical efficiency & once the trap is sprung no matter how hard you twist & turn, you will be lucky to escape. If you do, there is no breathing space, he will be straight back at you (excellent stamina). Totally safe, sane & fair.
I am interested mythology and was curious to see which of the ancient northern gods our hero resembled. Not sure. Maybe fearsome Thor the god of war, or perhaps tragic Baldur god of innocence & beauty. Perhaps even bad boy Loki (GV has heel tendencies & is rather cocky). In time he could become a heel of such troll like wickedness that genuine jobbers will tremble with pleasure at mere mention of his name. But I am sure the gods will be proud of their boy.
I have wrestled 200 plus guys in the last 10 years, and Grappleviking is definitely one of my stand out opponents for all the right reasons. He is honestly one of the best grapplers I have ever fought, the complete package. In his recommendation for me he said he was proud to call me a close friend; I feel the same about you Mister. If you are lucky enough to get the chance do wrestle him, you won’t be disappointed.
I was delighted to meet, chat and wrestle a bit with the giant "Tanker". I don't know which is bigger - his physical size or his personality. His size can be bit intimidating for us lightweights, but once on the mat I found him to be a "gentle giant". Well maybe that was cause we had to go easy this time due to his knee. His personality is so jovial and engaging that it is a pleasure to spend time in his company. Hopefully we will have a proper wrestle next time. He doesn't need any more recommendations, but he is getting it anyway!
Loved meeting this genial, charming, good looking Irishman with a great sense of humour.
A superb wrestler, skilled, strong, relentless stamina, just keeps coming right at you. Wish we could have longer on the mats unfortunately due to a swollen knee I lacked my usual mountain goat agility & so had to stop.
I think its fair to say he won, something I intend to remedy at the rematch we are both talking about.
Cannot recommend him highly enough
Now here's a slice if old New York
you shouldn't miss. Skip boring things like the Statute of Liberty & make the journey to Manhatton's Upper East Side , off Park Avenue via subway & bus. (The street life in New York is worth the journey alone.) .
I got to the apartment, went through the open front door & there ........reclining on his Chaise Longue, a vision in a Royal Blue dressing gown, surrounded by knick knacks in a fabulous drawing room was.... Ats. ......So pleased yer here he said, in a deep gravelly James Cagney kinda voice.
He offered me the first of many cups of coffee & the next couple of houses flew by, as he entertained me
He is a lovely warm, funny, .....no hilarious guy. Eventually we thought we had better wrestle. Though to be honest I was happy just watching Tom's one man show. He is a tough cookie of a wrestler, very strong, good defence, learnt his trade at the YMCA in New York. Which I imagine is a pretty tough outfit.
We didn't have long enough (My fault, was 2 days & 2 hours late) DEF Recommend. Till next time & thanks
First time I have fought well above my weight, but had a good safe time in the ring and learnt a lot of lessons, will certainly be coming back for more.
Nice friendly guy with a good sense of humour. Very fit & strong due to regular sessions at the gym plus a number of other activities. As a wrestler, long reach, good defence. We did a mix of submission & pro, was great fun , also his first time in an actual ring, really threw himself into it. Think he is the type to pick things up quickly, so watch out ( but don't worry safe & sane). A pleasure to meet hope we can do it again.
I met him before when he came down to LAW a few years ago, but we didn't wrestle at the time, so it was good to finally hit the mats. I enjoyed our brief match in Manchester. He was welcoming and friendly as well as safe and sane, he was a pleasure to wrestle.
The sort of wrestler we all aspire to be. Skilled, strong, good stamina, agile, very fit (dedicated cyclist), who effortlessly anticipates or mind reads his opponents next move. Good & encouraging coach.
Matt's a nice friendly guy, easy to talk too, with a good sense of humour. Physically he is tall with a muscular athletic build. We have met before but never wrestled so I knew he was good. Went onto the mats determined to give it my best shot, I think I defended & used my strength to the best of my ability but was always on the back foot, when I tried to attack & he easily deflected & turned the tables. We had 4 rounds, each ending in me submitting, really enjoyed it & hope we can do it again.
Do wrestle him if you get the chance he is exceptional!
YEARS since I last wrestled anyone and was great to meet up with Tanker and all the other great wrestlers at the Grapevine meet at Pippas.
Tanker made me smile.
Our match was a power battle and he was very much up for it. We later did some pro in the ring with photos and he was up for that too. I left just before the end while Tanker was wrestling a full on submission match and he was up for that also!
I get and share his love of wrestling.
Tanker is fun, very intelligent, strong as heck, sane and safe and totally appropriate.
Although we met at a Grapevine meeting, I assume that Tanker would also be very reliable as he enjoys wrestling so much.
Oh, as a final point, he writes really fun and interesting recommendations. Check them out !
I recommend Tanker 100% and look forward to working out with him again (and again) now that I have restarted wrestling.
Many moons since I last wrestled notcom. Back then he used to wipe the floor with me. Yesterday we locked horns again. He is a big strong guy with powerful shoulders & arms, massive thighs which as a "leg man I greatly admired (Made a mental note not to get trapped in them tho lol).
Totally safe & sane.
Our match yesterday was an intense & prolonged battle of strength, perfectly balanced neither of us could break the others defence, tho I had a nasty feeling if he got on top I would be toast. It ended as a no score draw. it was a real test of stamina & I hope we can do it again.
Mike is a nice friendly easy going guy, very intelligent & good to talk too.
08/11/2014: Big, strong, friendly, experienced guy, great fun to wrestle. Looking forward to more. Highly recommended.
04/07/2015: Great to finally get a proper match in with Tanker after an enjoyable but very brief taster last year. And as it was in the ring at Pippa's as part of the Grapevine meet he was able to show off his pro skills and his mean heel persona, working me on the ropes and throwing this middleweight around a bit. Which obviously I loved! It is just a pro persona though, he's a nice guy really, wrestles very safely and sanely and is accommodating of those of us whose wrestling tastes run rather to submission, letting me try my best on him in some ground work---but to no avail! Looking forward to a longer round 3.
14/11/2015: Back in the ring at Pippa's with Tanker at John's meet. It's such a ball to wrestle this guy, he's super strong and knows how to give a middleweight lad like me a good working over on the ropes and on the canvas. Completely safe and just for fun though, he's a totally lovely friendly bloke and it's great to be getting some regular ring time with him.
Accidentally removed my recommendation for New Zealand's finest, sorry about that bud!
Really nice friendly & reliable. Not to mention a strong fit and very skilled opponent.
Like most people from the southern hemisphere he has a cheery happy go lucky personality.
We have wrestled several time at the Pippas meets & once in public at The Eagle.
If your visiting London do put him on your to do list as he won't let you down & you are assured a good scrap in the bargain
Bill was one of the first guys I ever contacted over 10 years ago. I was blown away by his photos & physique . It took a couple of years for us to meet & when we did he looked exactly as I hoped he would & is one of the nicest & most charismatic people I have ever met.
Like many people on the British scene I owe him a lot, he has provided us with the Rochdale Mat room, is one of the stalwarts who have made the UK one of the best places for gay & straight men to wrestle..
As a wrestler he is the real deal. A genuine uncompromising heavyweight submission wrestler.
The minute you hook up and feel the force you know your in the presence of greatness. Never beaten him, or come close to beating him. Think I may have once got a submission. Boy did he punish me for my temerity! But I hasten to add you are in safe hands with him.
We met up last weekend. In the run up, Bill warned me he was a shadow of his former self, even suggesting we had a PRO MATCH OF ALL THINGS!!! However I am happy to report this is all rubbish. Daddy Bear is still very much the Alpha male. Old habits die hard & once we locked horns his submission wrestlers instincts rose up& wiped the mats with me. The power, the skill, the deep knowledge of martial arts. He still has it.
Thank you again sir. I know being best type of old fashioned gentleman you don't really approve of recommendations. But I hope you accept this in the spirit it's offered. It's took me 2 bloody days to write & is the third draft & I still don' think I have done you justice!!
Met Tanker at the Rochdale ring a few years ago with another guy for a 3 way battle. As I was a little inexperienced and on awe at the fact I was wrestling in a ring I may have let my guard down an lost.
Wrestling this big guy was one of the best experiences in wrestling I have had. It's been too long....need to do it again.
How to describe this fantastic genuine guy; 'a gentle giant that hit's like a truck' comes to mind. Skilled, strong, generously matched himself to my level of ability, a total pleasure to wrestle with and talk to on and off the mats. Very highly recommended.
Met Lee at a group meet. He has dabbled in wrestling in the past & has recently returned to the sport. The group contained some exceptional wrestlers and me. But Lee did well.
He is a strong well built guy with good stamina.
He was a quick learner on the second day you could send a big difference from the first.
As a person he is a nice easy going guy with a good sense of humour real gent.who kindly gave me a lift to to the railway station. All wrestlers have doubts about their wrestling ability & Lee shared his with me. But he has nothing to worry about. No hesitation in recommending him.
What a brilliant guy to have met!
Big, strong and enthusiastic on the mats, he was good fun to grapple with and puts up a good fight.
Off the mats he mixes well in a group and is good to talk with.
Fully recommend this big chap for anyone who likes a good fun wrestle!
Don't be fooled by the baby blue eyes & the butter wouldn't melt in the mouth demeanour.
This guy is in a different league to me. Stronger faster, fitter more agile. Submissions executed with clinical efficiency. Physically he is deceptive, was surprised to discover he was 14.5 St. (Ie he doesn't look it) Also comes with a background in karate. A natural fighter.
He is terrific fun, laid back, with what I took to be a lovely old fashioned Cockney accent though 'e seez it ain't, also has wicked laugh that Long John Silver (As played by Robert Newton) would be proud of.. Do meet him you won't regret it.
Only managed a short bout against this friendly giant. As he whupped me 3-1 probably for the best. Solid, strong, reliable opponent who does use his weight to his advantage but looks out for lighter oppo. Good guy.
Had a further (3rd) roll with Dave at Battle. Still strong and solid and careful. Fun opponent. He can thump you if he wants but he just prefers to let a lighter opponent live! Great company. Highly recommended.
Just had my 3rd meeting with Glasgow'a Prince Charming. Am travelling on Virgin trains & thanks to the bumpy ride have just deleted previous recommdation I did for him.
He is a fit strong skilled wrestler who if we were the same weight could probably beat me. Always safe & sane.
He is a really nice guy with a very dry sardonic Scottish sense of humour. (Very similar to Yorkshirel one) Aways a pleasure to spend time with. Both of us have travelled extensively on wrestling's highways & byways, so we always have lots to talk about.
Def recomendation do meet him if you get the chance
July 2016 - Another great days wrestling, great company and another great wrestling facility.
Rochdale this time and it was a very hot humid day, not ideal for a 3 hour wrestling session.
First up a pro bout in the ring, something I've always wanted to try so when Dave suggested it i jumped at the chance, a little light warm up I think he said but I soon found myself in all kinds of holds and pins as he released the inner heel. By the time we got around to the submission match we were both drenched in sweat and not in the best fettle and soon found myself defending his attacks, quite successfully for a while, even managed the first submission. But sadly all down hill after that, he realised his earlier mistake and managed to keep my legs firmly out of play.
I guess the north east title still remains a little too far south, despite my protests of not being a genuine heavyweight!!
I've done quite a lot in the 3 months I've been wrestling and most of it is because of Dave. I would just like to say a big thank-you for all the help and encouragement.
Big guy, big heart.
Met Dave this morning and boy did he not disappoint. He saw that I was nervous at first and put me at ease straight away before cranking up the pain, ha ha.
He was kind enough to show me some holds but I'm not sure for who's benefit as he had a wicked grin on his face as he was putting on the pressure. He assured me that I didn't totally suck at this and I even managed to catch him out once or twice, three times but who's counting. I highly recommend wrestling this mountain of a man if you get the chance, no matter what level your at. Don't let him get on top though and if he's smiling at you get ready as he's planning something painful. Off the mats he's a lovely bloke to talk to, and I had a really enjoyable but painful morning with him.
I highly recommend Dave he is safe and sound and one tough opponent. I look forward to Round two.
Dave is far too kind with his rec, basically I turned up when I said I would, I got stuck in and I didn't totally suck.
July 2016- Third outing with my Buddy from Geordieland. Was proud to introduce him to one of British Wrestling's most hallowed sites Rochdale…. It was a humid day, not ideal for British guys to wrestle. Mark arrived at mine at 7 am, a time of day I have not been familiar with recently.
At Rochdale we started with pro, both of us entered into the spirit of it . Me as Mick Mcmanus growling & fouling, Mark as jobber suffered beautifully. The grannies would have loved him.
Then we had a fair old scrap GRR. But because of the heat neither of us were on top form. He is easy to arrange a meeting with , reliable & good company.
He defends well & it is tricky to get down onto the mats & establish a ground position over. Even if you do, you will have to deal with some effective & sustained counter attacks.
Which brings me too…………..
If your on top & his legs & feet start to shift. His signature move, a leg submission is almost certainly under way. MOVE YOUR LEGS & FEET OUT OF HARMS WAY AT ONCE, IT MAY ALREADY BE TO LATE! (it can slip stealthily under your radar in the guise of simply trying to shift his body). Once on it can be fatal. An excellent move, wish I could do it. Fear my days as NE champ may be numbered!
29th april 2016
Don't write a long recommendation making out I'm better that what I am said Glasgow1971 during our very enjoyable session today.
Will try !
He is a very nice friendly guy with a good sense of humour, modest to a fault, very easy & straightforward to arrange a meeting with.
Physically he is a tall well built guy, who has a job that keeps him fit & he has above average strength& could probably model underwear for the more mature male market . Today was his first ever fight of any kind since junior school , so he was understandably a bit nervous( AT FIRST THAT IS !!) Once we started grappling within the limitations of my living room, I took in his strength & agility, he defended well & uses his long legs to great effect & got at least one submission using them. Reckon he is a natural wrestler with a bit more practise a genuine contender.
He claims not to be competitive ………However at the end of of our session I remarked he had got a couple of submissions, good for a first time. Actually he said looking at me rather hard I got 3 . He was quite right! he did! Def recommendation, safe & sane. Hope we can meet again.
Ps unlike certain other geordie wrestlers on this site he did not insult me before the fight or whinge about the result afterwards!
great nice guy who gives it his all whilst wrestling, will be a good wrestler once he remembers to put things into practise . would certainly wrestle him again
Met Tanker again for another wrestle, he has improved a lot since our meeting, defends well and is a good strong wrestler .. thoroughly recommend him to anyone who wants a good wrestle
17.7.16 Been trying to arrange rematch with this beast for about 2 years. then all of a sudden we met twice. Last weekend at a hotel in Nottingham, then again today at Pippas courtesy of Steve Gray. I have pondered the enigma that is Jamstu long & hard. A big bloke who is light on his feet, fast & agile. Skilled in the grappling arts. Strong as an ox, fit, but says he doesn't train. Hotel wrestles are not really my thing because of the lack of space & I knew with James I needed to move around & hopefully tire him. Sure enough he soon had me corned, overpowered & submitting. HoweverI enjoyed it. We posed together in front of the mirror at my suggestion & sparred a little & I had a good look at his body & compared our bulk & height to see where I might have an opening for today.(Rather cunning of me I thought). But in the end my only real plan was to dance around Mohammed Ali style (Don't laugh ) & hope for an opening if he got tired. This was ok , & today unlike our previous fights I managed to fight my way out of concerted Jamstu attacks & avoided been dragged into the Jamstu vortex, overpowered & forced to submit. FOR A WHILE! But ultimately the rock on which my hopes were dashed were his strength, size & he is a better wrestler. I got on top which is where I am happiest, tried my favourite subs to no avail. Before he assumed control & submitted me.
Conclusion……….I need to become a powerlifter !!!
James is a lovely guy, at the end we discussed how I might manage to take him down & we tried one or two thing & he let me practise a couple of subs.
I have wrestled a lot of very accomplished heavyweights.. Both here & abroad. I reckon James is the toughest Heavyweight opponent I have faced in the UK at the present time . He is probably amongst 6 best best I have faced in the world. If you want to test yourself take him on, he is safe & will wrestle at your level. He is a challenge, but I would like meet on a regular basis & hopefully improve. 10 out of 10 from me!
OMG! Jamstu is awesome. There are some wrestlers, Musclneck, Rob England et al , who I use as benchmarks. To their number I add James. Very strong (He used to lift beer barrels at work & built up his strength & learnt the best way to lift heavy weights with minimum effort doing it) Very Skilled wrestler (All down to understanding physics he tells me, valuable information. I felt I should share it) Another thing when james was attempting to coach me was his suggestions on techniques were geared to the needs of bigger guys like himself & myself , who have't the agility of a lighter wrestler.
As you've probably guessed I lost.
James is a nice guy. Safe & sane, good & generous coach. He wrestles to win, but pitches it at his
opponents level. he is happy to wrestle any shape or size of wrestler.
As I was driving home over Saddleworth Moor in the Bleak Borderlands Of Lancashire & the old West Riding of Yorkshire in strong winds, my shoulders were aching like they've never ached before after a wrestling match. Def Recommend for wrestlers of any level
Met Tanker at Robs and totally got dominated and overpowered. Tanker easily used me as his jobber and got me in a few holds that made me tap within seconds. Friendly safe and easy going opponent and will be looking for another meet sometime.
Manged to arrange a meet with Tanker today at short notice and he was as good if not better than our previous meet. Pleasant guy both on and off mats would easily recommend to others.
Long overdue rematch with Mr Cage. He has beefed up since our last fight. Did some give & take to warm up then did some full on submission.
He is a big strong lad & we had a good scrap. He defends well & knows some good moves. we met at his place which was fine, but like all living rooms you have to take extra care, next time we both agree we want to do it in a mat room with plenty of space & really go for it.
-Do not believe a word this man says, he is no jobber & he did not get totally overpowered & dominated. We decided to have a give & take session with a few subs along the way. He impressed me with his natural ability, he slipped on a couple of subs before I realised what had happend. He is also very strong & athletic. Physically he is tall , more powerfully built than his photos would suggest. Andy is a nice friendly guy easy to talk to safe & sane & reliable and I really enjoyed our bout & want another. I'm not sure who would win in a sub contest between me & him, would't bet on myself lol. Thanks to Rob England for letting us use his Matroom
A legend in our wrestling world. But for me someone I owe him a lot.
A real heel who will give you a sweaty, hard time on the mats.I cant recommend him highly enough as, to be frank, I wish I d wrestle him every day.Do yourself a favor and meet this extraordinary man.
If your planning to vist the fabled city of Athens as well as the Acropolis put grjobber (Nikos) on your must see list. When I stayed with him it was a wrestlers dream come true. He comes complete with his own mat room & arranged for a succession of hunky guys to come & wrestle me there. He is a good cook & wants to do everything he possibly can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. He is also totally reliable, if he says he gonna to meet you he will, there will be no annoying last minute cancellations (barring acts of God).
He is a good guy , easy to talk too, good sense of humour. He has also stayed with me in England & is a very considerate & appreciative guest
Known him quite a few years , when we first met he was a genuine jobber, but through hard work at the gym he has beefed up, strong , fit, has a high pain threshold no matter what you throw at him, good wrestling skills, can wrestle for hours,
He like to play the victim complete with all the sound effects (groaning begging etc)…….
But……… I detect a darker side & in time…… I predict….. A heel of such wickedness will emerge that proper jobbers will tremble with pleasure, at the mere mention of his name.
Def recommend, safe & sane, a very dear & valued friend.
Tanker is a great guy, polite, soft-spoken and ready to make a newcomer feel welcome. I neevr had much chance: he's 19 stone and I'm 11. But he was very patient, and was great company on and off the mat. Cheers, mate !
Sam's a really nice guy, polite & easy to talk to with a good sense of humour . I think given our weight difference he is also very brave lol.
He mentioned he had done some freestyle wrestling training in the past & it showed. He is a fit strong guy, with some good skills. Hope we can do it again. 10 out of 10 Mister!
Had a really good wrestle with Dave. He was kind, patient and taught me many good moves and holds! He is also such a nice and genuine guy who has time to coach a new guy to wrestling. Was a bit exhausted but we took a few breaks between the wrestles and had a good chat. I enjoyed our time together, even though as the new inexperienced guy I was at a disadvantage, I did learn quite a few moves and I hope to meet with Dave again one day! Definitely recommended to meet!
What a nice guy !
Easy to arrange our meeting.
Stevie is new to our noble art and like all honest newbies is a bit nervous & inclined to underestimate himself as a fighter.
He is strong, has good stamina.
Good attack & defence instincts.
He is a big lad & if he gets on top he takes some shifting!
If he locks a hold on that also takes some getting off.
Can't really fault him, his bedroom scales are a little inaccurate (by 2 stone) but we will let that pass!
Easy going, good conversation, very safety conscious & reliable.
The time flew by.
Def recommendation from moi.
I first saw Tanker on Saturday 9th November 2014, at the Manchester Meet. I have seen him many times at the other meets, but never had time to speak to him.
Finally met him on Saturday 10th May 2014, at the Manchester Meet, for a wrestle.
He is very strong, and fast too for his weight category. Loved every minute of it. He is skilled, safe and sane wrestler, who I'll happy wrestle again - recommended, for sure.
I managed to wrestle Tanker again at Rochdale Spotland ring, for a private group meet on Saturday 20th May 2016. He picked me up from Manchester and dropped me back. We have now chatted and wrestled many times, he is always a true gent. Tanker has gotten more and more confident, stronger and skilled since we first wrestled. Don't miss the opportunely to meet this lovely, soft-spoken man.
May 2014 - Imran & I have both eyed each other up at earlier meets.
My impressions where of a very fit, strong, agile determined, confident young wrestler, with above average skills.
Physically he is tall & wiry. This type of opponent has given me no end of trouble in the past & I was a little wary. I suspected a wolf in sheep's clothing.
But… I really enjoyed our fight. He has a style all of his own, mix of other martial arts & it was really fun to take him on.
My first impressions were right, he is also safe & sane & looks good in his gear. But is definitey a wolf !
Take him on now, before he gets too good !
Time for an update - Imran & I have a few scraps now, they tend to follow a pattern, locking up the a few minutes of push & pull, then a lunge by me taking us both down onto the mats & me asserting myself on top. I think its fair to say I am the stronger, there again as I am exactly twice his weight that is hardly surprising !
(Thank you Muscldfighter for kindly pointing that out the other night!)
I then attempt to too finish him off. This is where things start to go awry from my point of view. He is strong, defends well, he is never still , writhes like a snake, in fact he could probably be bound & locked in a suitcase & find a way out Houdini style!
Very unsettling for those of us not blest in the agility stakes!
Then the inevitable deadly strike (He is the master of a 1000 holds all lethal).
One of my most treasured memories is of me introducing him to a musclegod & watching the expression on the god's face as the fight progressed.
In person he is unfailingly polite, a wealth of knowledge about martial arts & off the mats is a very gentle & sincere guy
Met this big friendly guy today at Pippas. I was a little apprehensive when we got onto the mats as he is bigger than me. We soon exchanged moves and had a good grapple. More than happy to recommend this guy for a friendly safe and sane wrestle. I want round two :-)
May 2016 - Met James a few times now It's always a pleasure.
Since our first bout things have evened up quite a bit & I think I can now at least give him a good work out. But …. don't think I have ever got a submission out of him, he defends well & the upper body strength is such I just can't get those arms or those massive legs into position. Like all good wrestlers he has the technique, stamina & confidence to bide his time if necessary, then strike when his opponent makes a mistake or is tiring.
Before I met him looking at his photo & reading about him wanting to get his hands on folk. I expected a taciturn, neanderthal, who would speak in growls, nothing could be further from the truth. He is the nicest , most easy going, humorous guy imaginable.
Physically he is a big man, in height & build, looks good in gear & if your a leg man like me, you won't see a finer pair of thighs anywhere!
14/2/2015 - I am sure most people who know both James & myself would consider I had more to be apprehensive about than him!
Before the fight we shook hands & as his big paw closed round my little mitt & nearly crushed it, I knew my goose was cooked!
James was very anxous to reassure me what a beginner he was , but gradually the truth emerged a little karate here, some Ju jitsu there. He is a big strong well built guy, good attack & submission skills & I reckon would give the best on Meetfighters a run for their money. Very safe & sane , will wrestle at his victims level.
A nice kind hearted guy, who puts people at their ease, full of Lancastrian warmth & humour , a real credit to his charm school!
Am flattered he wants round 2, as do I
to recap: HUGE lad, great attitude, big heart and deffo a big wrestler :) Met tanker 3 years ago, and still always up for having a good wrestle with him.
2016: An update. Met Tanker again after 4 years. He grappling skills has improved significantly. Has become much more technical and methodical. His moves are deliberate and sets up his positions before moving in for the submission move.
A real pleasure rolling with this big man - genteel personality with an intimidating stature and a technical roll!
Waiting for our next encounter!
3/4/2011Just realised had not written a recommendation for this the nicest most accomplished Grappler/ Martial Arts expert & All round God. Have met twice & hope to meet again.
Known this beast of the east for 9 years.
Next life I want to be him, have a great body, kick arse & be loved by all who meet me.
This was our 4th meeting & this time I was not going to be intimidated by his power. Watching him limber up in a pair of red martial arts shorts, was like looking a pro fighter in peak condition. He always looks good but this time he surpassed himself. Interestingly since our first meeting we have both gained 40lbs (Muscle in his case ).
Locking up in the ring at rochdale I was determined not to be a walkover. I like to think I gave him a good work out, got him off me once or twice, got on top a bit, but essentially was always on the back foot. I did get a submission, not sure if I actually won it or it was awarded for effort!
Eventually though as I tired Mr Zen having calmly countered my attacks, he equally calmly took the inevitable subs from me. Sometimes with his eyes shut deep with concentration (Am gonna try that but only with a jobber) Sometimes with me on top of him & him lying on the floor. If only I could do that!
We had about 3 sessions in-between Joe taking on 2 other guys ( Both quality opponents) he gave me some coaching, but I fear it went in one ear & out the other (Not his fault)
Earlier in this recommendation I mentioned wanting to be Joe & kick arse, that is not really his style, he is calm, measured, like all great fighters he gets maximum effect from seemingly minimal effort. How I wish I understood the complexities of that.
Again like the all best fighters he is safe & sane, you can trust him to wrestle at your level . Amazing strength & stamina.
Finally this was our 4th meeting , he is a link with my early days of wrestling, so many have come & gone , in one case died. But the thing I really like about him is he has been prepared to keep in touch with someone who is distinctly average both as a fighter & in body shape, something I think we all know musclegods don't generally do.
He is a very nice easy going guy unassuming & modest (He will be horrified at what I have written)with a great sense of humour. I think you probably get my drift!
Tanker make the effort to come at my home for a weekend. I was happy to meet tanker with his so many past opponents. We passed many time on my mat in fun rumbles with this strong guy.
Outside mat he is a friendly man with who its pleasant to discuss and pass time
Alain is the perfect host. Not only did he invite me to stay at his lovely home just outside Paris for 3 days. He also found me a very cheap return flight (€65) He also in the best traditions of France is a very good cook. Apart from when he was working me over it was a very pleasant & relaxing stay.
As a wrestler he is very technical , strong & a good & patient coach. As you have probably guessed he is a way better wrestler than me. He understands complicated things like the correct way to do an armbar& how to knock your opponent off balance & follow through without exhausting yourself. If you get the chance you should meet him. If your a wrestle god you will fight a worthy opponent. If your crap he will go at your pace & give you some coaching as well. He is definitely one of the best wrestlers I have met.
Really nice easy going guy. Totally safe. You might also get a match with his protégé French novice thrown in. Oh he has a very good matroom to. Alain merci beaucoup.
Tanker is the most impressive opponent I've met.
Tall, bigger than me with big muscles, incredible number of past opponents on his profile. I can admit I was a bit afraid.
Actually, I met a really nice guy, with a great sense of humor.
In front of him, I felt so small before the fight !
I had the chance to apply him some holds to the ground but it was more difficult standing.
Think carefully before facing him at his "sumo" game. It's funny but he is so strong !
A good meeting ! Thank you Dave, it was nice to meet you in France
I met French Novice through Alain (AD Idf) at Alain's matrons south of Paris.
The so called French "novice" is a tall well built guy. Very friendly and good sense of humour. But I am sorry to say not very truthful!
When we met up I was told a tragic tale of a poor defenceless little Corsican garcon, who begged me to go easy on him, as he was not very skilled, was always being beaten by other wrestlers I was nearly in tears.
In fact thanks to Alain's expert coaching (They meet every week to wrestle & had an extra session on Wednesday in preparation for me) he has acquired some very impressive groundwork skills, allied with his natural strength, speed & agility makes him a formidable submission wrestler. Starting from the ground (a weak spot of mine.) He easily got the better of me. From a standing position I generally got the upper hand but it was close run thing.
He is great fun, totally recommend. But I think it's time for a name change!
MercI beaucoup to Alain for bringing us together in his matroom.
Till next time.
Tanker is a lovely person who I enjoyed wrestling. At a large event with many wonderful wrestling opponents, he was an instant and top choice for grappling. He is also a big tank of a man who looks great in his pro gear and I hope one day we can have a proper bout in a wrestling ring. Definitely recommend.
Ever met the Roman God Bacchus? No me neither, but this wrestler put me in mind of him. Tall, well built , with dark curly hair & clean cut all American good looks. I met him at the Clash of Titans in Atlanta, Georgia in 2015.
He is a nice, friendly, polite guy , easy to talk too. After a few minutes chatting I suggested a match, Bachhus was bit reluctant he had't been planning to wrestle that day…… But I was not to be denied, Roman God lookalikes don't come my way to often, so after a few minutes we stepped onto the mats.
Now what happened next was a bit of a surprise, but it should't have been, the number of times it has happened to me. My opponent in conversation had downplayed his skills & fitness & flattered me about mine BIG TIME.
Once on the mats he began to move with the speed & grace of the true athlete, we locked up & I took in how strong he was, also he was smiling at me in a way that I found unsettling, it was a smile of someone who knows he has the upper hand.
"Come on, fight" the smile said. "You were the one who wanted this"
It is a very effective technique & I recommend it……
Furthermore my opponent was taller & had a longer reach & was in overdrive. (All things I find tricky.) At all costs I had to keep on my feet, if we went down to the mats & he got on top I would be toast. For several minutes I managed to keep him at bay, but I knew I was doomed!
However as it happened I was due to fight a pro wrestler in the main ring & at this point I was called for that fight. So I was saved from certain defeat.
That was pretty much it until today when we got talking in the chatroom. I did't know he had a profile on here.
In conclusion totally recommend this guy, he is nice, good fun, safe & sane & an excellent wrestler
Till next time !
I had the great privilege of wrestling Tanker last year while he was visiting South Florida. He is built solid and tough! Knows a lot of great submission holds. He dishes out the pain in a safe manner and makes for a great heel. Off the mats, he's a very friendly guy and fun to hang out with. Glad I had the chance to wrestle him twice while he was visiting. Hope this wrestling beast makes it back to the states sometime soon.
Toughjobber was one of the highlights of my trip to America last year.
He very kindly picked me up from Fort Lauderdale airport & drove me to his house in Miami where we had the first of 2 grapples, afterwards he treated me to dinner, before driving me back to Fort Lauderdale.
While I was waiting for him at the airport, it occurred to me I might be about to have a possibly fatal meeting with a serial killer, ( There were no past opponents or much information on his profile.) On the highway TJ was having similar thoughts about the wisdom of inviting a Limey he had never met into his home! (America & England are both famous for producing serial killers) Happily our fears proved groundless!
He is an athletic guy who takes good care of himself & looks a bit like Tom Cruise. At his house we had an intense match, he is tough strong , skilled & has a high pain threshold & good stamina, not to mention a nice line in trash talk, his style is pro mission, i.e. pro style, but the subs are for real.
Totally safe & sane. Off the mats he is easy going with good sense of humour & a pleasure to spend time with.
A second meeting later in the week followed with him again driving up to Fort Lauderdale to meet me. He is a very sweet guy who I recommend & hope to meet again.
Tanker and Enigma have battled twice, the last time he succumbed to my power and relentless wrestling attack, it was a joy to work him over
The Enigma………is just that …….An enigma……….
What is he like people have asked me? I just don't know …Can be a sweetie, sometimes D'bastard….. I have met him twice, first time he was in in jobber mode & was just a slip of a lightweight , Second time v tuff heel & practically a heavyweight. You'll just have to find out for yourself…….
What I can tell you is he is one tough skilled wrestler, fiercely proud of his northern roots c/w a dry sense of humour. His guns are his greatest weapon & man is he proud of them.
He turned me over good & proper last time we met, by the time he was finished with me I could hardly drive myself home. His wrestling pace is measured, careful but deceptively strong. At first I was confident I could handle him, but each time he took me down, kept me down & slowly relentlessly applied the pressure, never lost control, till the desired submission was achieved.
He has done everything a wrestler can do , think I first came across him on BG East, has been gravy wrestling champion (A serious competitive event btw)
He is one of my wrestling heroes, but I want my revenge & I will have it fukka!
If you wrestle him don't be afraid , he is safe & sane & will go at your pace.
He is one of the great characters of the British scene & no wrestling CV is complete till you have fought him. Finally under the gruff northern exterior there is of course the proverbial heart of gold (Tho I don't suppose I'll get any thanks for saying so).
WELL WAT CAN I SAY ABOUT DAVID IVE KNOWN HIM NOW FOR OVER 2 YEARS NOW AS HE ATTENDS MOST GROUP MEETS AND HE GOS OUT OF IS WAY TO DO SO AS I LIVES IN NORTH YORKSHIRE DAVID IS ONE HELL OF A NICE GUY TO NO AND SPEND TIME WITH I DOINT NO WHY ITS TAKEN SO LONG AS TO US WRESTLING EACH OTHER UNTILL TODAY WHEN HE ASKED ME TO DO SO YES HE IS A BIG GUY ALL 19 STONE OF HIM BUT I ENJOYED WRESTLING HIM EVEN IF IT WAS SHORT BUT NOW ILL BE MAKING DAM SURE WE WILL WRESTLE AGAIN OFF THE MATS YOU WOINT FIND A NICER GUY ON THE MATS YES YOU GET A GOOD WORK OUT BUT HE WILL ADAPT TO YOU LEVEL SO DOINT BE AFAID BY HIS SIZE YES HE IS A VERY GOOD PRO WRESTLER BUT ALSO A GOOD SUB AND I WOOD RECOMEND HIM TO ALL DOINT MISS OUT GUYS YOU WOINT REGRET IT ONE BIT I WOINT CHEERS DAVID
John is one of the stalwarts of the British wrestling scene. He organises one of the regular Saturday meetings at Pippas in Manchester. I for one one always enjoy attending these & would recommend them to other people, much safer & more reliable than meeting strangers in a hotel, more space & Pippas is totally private. You get a good mix of British & foreign wrestlers all shapes & sizes, in a welcoming & attitude free environment.
John is really nice friendly guy who goes out of his way to make sure you have a good time at his events. As a wrestler he is fit & strong very wiry & agile. he reminds me me of some of the really tough lightweights you used to see on World of sport years ago Alan Sargent, Jeff Kaye at al.
We have known each other for quite a while , but have never fought till yesterday, partly because to honest I thought he look ed the sort of fast agile lightweight, who would slip a nasty & very painful sub on in second, but really enjoyed our match, def recommend
Although we have met many times at Pipas, today was the first time I wrestled this big powerful bloke who knows his stuff. I found it very difficult to make headway. OK, I mean impossible to make any impact. But what a lovely charming man off the mats! Looking forward to rematch when I’ve recovered.
Its always a pleasure to meet someone who describes you as lovely & charming. I always feel such people as well as being lovely & charming themselves are highly intelligent & perceptive, not to mention generous. This certainly applies to Mark.
When I hear that people are doing BJJ classes, I get nervous… Visions of being thrown halfway across the room & being bent into shapes no one over 45 should be bent into come to mind…. So must confess was more than a little nervous when I stepped onto the mats yesterday. Mark is a skilled grappler very fit & agile & we had a very enjoyable match. Nice friendly guy to chat too. Def recommendation. Now I have conquered by fear of BJJ fighters we will fight again
Chic Cullen lookalike I wish. It is a challenge to add anything new to Tanker’s many glowing recommendations, as it is a challenge to take him on in the ring. Great pro wrestler build and look. Definitely recommended.
Les is a really nice guy who looks like 1980's Wos wrestler Chic Cullen, same smile & gear, kind eyes. Like Chic he is a very good wrestler strong & skilled & you will have a fight on your hands. Watching him in action yesterday I noticed he pitched his wrestling at his opponents level. Have been aware of his profile for many years but until yesterday we had never met. Prior to the fight we chatted briefly online & it was nice to chat to a Scottish wrestler who did not subject me to a barrage of threats & insults unlike some I have met recently!
In conclusion great wrestler , perfect gentleman. Def recommend
I fought this man mountain yesterday and enjoyed the experience even though when we hit the floor I spent the rest of my time on my back with him on top slowly crushing me. He got both subs; the first one well earned but I gave him the second as I just couldn't shift him. It wasn't a whitewash though as he spent about 15 minutes trying to get a sub out of me.
We had a good laugh and I enjoyed both meeting him and wrestling with him.
I had a Geordie Grandad & have always had a soft spot for my cousins upon the Tyne & their unique take on the English language.
Tynesider is typical of the breed, tough, fit, very strong, friendly & a good sense of humour. He's in it to win it , so expect a competitive match ( but a safe & sane one ). His defence & stamina are excellent. It was his first time at the regular sat group meet, hopefully not the last. Alas victory did not go to the bonny lad on this occasion & I would point out a sub is a sub, even if it did take a long time to get (Greco Roman matches can last for hours) & no one likes a bad loser pet… Only kidding !! Great match great guy.
Till next time.
What an awesome Brit... Great personality, wrestler, conversationalist. Tank and I had a Pro wrestling match up in which I won and then we had a submission match up in which he devastated me. And like he said. We went out for steak dinner. He reminded me of the old Mike Sharp. I can't say enough about this guy. I hope we get the chance to cross paths again. Highly recommend him if you guys get the chance to meet him.
Met Sensational Danny at 2015 Clash of Titans in Atlanta Georgia.
Had 2 bouts 1 pro 1 sub. He won the pro and took my valet the faithless Prince Charming as his prize.
Had my revenge in submission.
Afterwards we went out for a Big Bear meal of steak & Cheesecake.
Very skilled fit pro wrestler. He is good fun & nice guy to spend time with. Hope we can meet again.
P's looks good in gear & has an extensive & colourful collection
Met this big fella at a meet in Manchester. Very easy to see why Tanker is a good profile name for him. Broad shoulders, big arms and legs.(He has a great pro wrestler look to him). It IS like locking up with a Tank! Very good strength. And the Tank was able to withstand my ammunition fired at him and keep tracking forward ;) Very nice guy off the mats, easy going and good to talk with.
Ye ha, loved meeting & wrestling Paul.
Nice friendly easy going guy with a good sense of humour. Lots of southern charm.
Classic movie star look. Tall dark & handsome with a great bod (Broad shoulders, long legs ,big ceps, perfect wrestler look. I could go on but you get the picture !)
I think he said he went to the gym 5 days a week or was it 3? Anyway very strong fit guy.
As a wrestler he goes at a nice steady pace , ideal for moi. it was a tough but satisfying match, was on the defensive most of the time. Tried to attack , but was easily countered by Mr America who is a very skilled grappler.
At one point the long powerful legs trapped me in a body scissors , calmly Paul lifted me up to get his legs tighter round my torso …..remember I weigh 120kg….. then…..
"ah fuck submit " (or something like it) I heard myself yell/scream
Even as I write this , the shock & pain of that move is still very vivid in my memory………..
In conclusion, do meet him if you get the chance, he is safe & sane , one of my favourite ever opponents. Hope we can meet again. Only regret we are an ocean & half a continent apart.
I had just got dressed to catch my train home, when tanker became free for a wrestle. So I was presented with the choice of a leisurely walk back to Piccadilly station, or a panicked sprit. I chose the latter!
Wow what a guy and so glad I met and wrestled him. Our wrestle was much to short, I am already looking forward to meeting again in the very near future!
Total recommendation from me. Roll on round 2!!!!!!
Quite a comedian our Al.
"I'm not very good" He said humbly while looking at the floor & wringing his hands sorrowfully.
But I had read his past recommendations & despite all the humbleness & modesty detected a steely glint in his eyes. He also reminded me of a very quiet but tough kid from my schooldays.
It was a short bout as Al had a train to catch, (possibly fortunately for me).
Mr Humble had a sudden personality change. Came straight at me , tho I was ready for a scrap took me aback with his wiry sinewy strength speed agility & determination.
His technique is excellent. At all costs do not get caught in his notorious jaw crushing headlock, the memory of which is still horribly vivid 24 hours later.
The rest of the bout is a bit of a blur as I tried to fend him off.
In conclusion Al is a very good wrestler who will test the best, if your planning a one on one bout I would suggest you up your cardio & strength training.
As a person he is a nice friendly guy, who I would be happy to meet again
Had a pretty awesome bout with tanker at my first group session (sorry for the nosebleed 😬). He is strong and likes to go at your own oace if you need it. Really good guy to talk to, would like to face him ahain
Tanker is undoubtedly the biggest guy I have ever tangled with, but it turned out to be a really enjoyable experience. He was totally safe and sane, and always kept within sensible limits, so any worries on my part were soon dispelled and I had a very enjoyable grapple.
It was also good to try out some holds and work on them together, as well as chatting a good deal too.
Looking forward to some more grappling soon!
Hedloker was one of the first people I ever contacted as we live near one another. He turned me down on the grounds of size . At the time I was struggling to find opponents & I was deeply hurt by this…….. Why does no one want to be my friend I thought tearfully. Though I could see his point, given the height & weight difference it would have been almost a 2 on 1 match.
That was pretty much it, never came across him until about 3 years ago. Gradually we got to know each other & he suggested we might meet up on home ground.
So last night we did. We had never actually wrestled before. But I had seen him in action & knew he was the sort of lightweight all heavyweights dread, fast agile, skilled & strong, the sort who can slip a nasty sub on in a split second & hang on like a limpet till you tap.
He too understandably was nervous. Till we started that is !
We both went for it. Determined not to lose & to avoid his notorious headlock, I shamelessly used my size dragged him down, straddled him, prepared to execute a submission, but the underdog was't having it! He defended well , time & time again I attacked , we broke & started afresh . Again I had him under siege, but could't breach the defence….. Submit fukka I hissed at one point…… Fuck you he hissed back through gritted teeth….. The contest was a no score draw, tho probably a ref might have awarded it to him on points given the disadvantage he was at & how well he fought.
Afterwards we had a chat about the wrestling scene, he has been around since the 1980's & the pre internet era , probably deserves a long service medal for services to gay sport !
Pound for pound he is one of the best wrestlers on here, who has taken on the biggest & best in our community. Nice friendly guy, easy to talk to gsoh. happy to meet again.
Big guy! Likes to throw his weight around like a typical bully - till he meets his match ha ha! We had a great pro rumble, then I showed him a how to do some of those holds properly (just kidding!). Someone needs to get in quick before he forgets them all again. Totally genuine guy, down to earth, big and intimidating. Had a lot of fun.
Ooh- er just had the ultimate pro session with a master of the art.
Been stretched further than I thought possible in various camels & boston crabs!
jgrappler is also a good teacher & I may have finally mastered these techniques thanks to his instructions.
He is a nice friendly easy going guy & the 3 hours we spent together flew by.
Reading his recommendations & having locked up with him I would't fancy my chances in a full on sub bout (But would be happy to try as he is safe & sane). Like all really good wrestlers he is a mix of power & technique & has wrestlers brain/instinct.
It was easy to arrange this meeting & he is a bullshit & attitude free zone.
Hope we can meet again.
It was my first ever wrestling event and I felt very unsure about how to start. But I was in luck as it was small turnout and a friendly group. Tanker was the second guy to suggest a grapple, which I really appreciated. Even though he's a few stone beefier than me, Tanker didn't exploit his clear advantage against my lack of tactics and experience. He gave me space and time to practice and we had an enjoyable, short bout. Thanks!
Blimey novice's are't what they used to be !
This particular "novice" as well as being very athletic, fast, fit, & strong seems to effortlessly pick up wrestling techniques & has a few of his own, some of which I have never come across before.
A tough opponent with very good defence, not as strong on attack , but am sure that deficiency will soon be rectified!
Bit of a Rob England in style.
As a person very nice & friendly with a good sense of humour & a wiry swimmer type physique. safe & sane.
I have been meeting Dave regularly at the meets at Pippa's but only got round to wrestling him recently. I always felt our relative sizes meant we were a bit of a mismatch but I need not have worried. He is a gentleman in and out of the ring, kowledgeable and generous with his time.I look forward to the next time.
Nice friendly guy, who despite having some misgivings, bravely stepped into the ring with me (Can't think why, am such a nice cuddly Teddy bear)!!
He is a strong fit wrestler with good defence ( does not like to submit) we had a n enjoyable pro style match.
Had a really good wrestle with this highly skilled strong guy last Saturday. He is a great bloke on and off the mats and most considerate of my back condition.
I most strongly recommend him
Major major apologies to the tanker. I deleted all of my previous recommendations in error. Finger trigger happy.
I've met Dave a few times now. Light roll about to bar room brawl type matches to championship title bouts. This guy is great and it is fantastic having my nemesis not so far away. Easy to arrange matches with. And will soon be arranging our next.
Ready for me Tanker. I'm coming to get ya
Sir David has branched out into organizing events.
He put his own twist on it, a Battle Royal. (I was the first to be pushed out courtesy of Sir )
It was Tuesday, so there were different wrestlers there to the more established weekend meets. Caught up with a couple of guys I have'nt seen in years which was nice.
Also had the pleasure of Miami Matt a pro wrestler . So if your invited to one of his "do's" I can recommend them.
Well done Bonny Lad!
30/7/14- Another match with Sir David- As always Tyneside's finest gave 100% . Really enjoyed it & his company. Was a gruelling sweat drenched match 10 x 5 minute rounds. David has a high pain threshold ( Does't like to submit )& good stamina.
5/6/14- After enduring weeks of shockingly ageist insults about my wrestling abilities, yesterday I got a rather pitiful email from "Sir David" saying he , had injured his neck & arm, could I take it easy on him in our forthcoming bout…. That old excuse I thought ..… Could have made some cheap comment as I suspect he would have to me… But being such a nice person I merely said how sorry I was…. (Very sorry actually, was looking forward to giving Geordie girl a good hiding. Or should that be Mackem girl, oh well same thing lol)
But have to take my hat off to the lass I mean lad…. He got in the ring, not only with me, but with the Awesome Vanman & battled away for a couple of hours despite being in considerable pain, really impressed me mate, true fighting spirit, well done!!!
Title bout off till further notice. Note is for the North East England Title, Not the North of England. Christ with that catchment area a serious challenger could come forward!!
After months of trash talk finally got to meet Newcastle's rising star of the Wrestling Scene. He's a fit strong lad with lots of stamina, high pain threshold, a real natural fighter but safe & sane. Nice guy, easy to talk to. It was a fair old scrap with fists &knees flying bit like a bar room brawl in an old fashioned western & my hitherto unknown inner beast woke up for the second time this week & joined in the fun. Really enjoyed it & want to do it again one of my best ever fights, mix of pro & sub. I got the better of him in most exchanges, but I needed more breaks than David, had we just carried on the balance would have probably shifted in his favour, but hey I has 17 st to carry around & a tuff opponent to deal with . Def recomend
18.10.2015 - TANKER is a nice guy with who have very friendly conversation but if you meet him on the mat you had be very careful because he is strong and insidious anyway safe and sane. Very recommended
After my defeat by Fghtr I crossed the Alps into Italy to take on Atonman.
I had been watching some of his earlier fights & could see he was fit , strong , fast & agile with very good technique. In my experience such people are frequently a match for someone who is big & strong, but slow & has not such a good or instinctive technique……
And that's what happened…..He hangs on like a limpet & once a sub is on, it is almost impossible to prise him off.
He is a very nice guy & I enjoyed our chat about Italy.
I recommend him, he is safe & sane
It was a pleasure to meet up. Tanker is strong, experienced and skilled and will give you a good match. I am sure we will meet again. Maybe he will teach me some PRO then. :)
Most of all he is a nice guy and very easy to chat with. Highly recommended.
Of course I knew I was going to lose…….
But nothing can prepare you for irresistible force that is Michael with his mix of technique & power.
As others have commented he is a considerate & thoughtful guy always concerned to make sure his victim is ok. He does not use excessive force to get a submission (Probably only needed work at about 25% capacity when he beat me)!
It was a pleasure & a privilege to wrestle him today, he is a gentlemen & I was thrilled (& surprised) when he said he would like to do it again!
But it was a humbling experience, after 10 years of wrestling & numerous hours of coaching how inadequate I was against such a high quality opponent.
I also had to endure catcalls from uncouth sections of the audience who were delighted at my predicament.
I totally recommend him, he is a big guy , with a big reputation, but don't let that worry you he is totally safe & sane & will go at your speed
Funny how I hadn't even realised that I hadn't left a recommendation in the past - we've wrestled so many times!
Indeed a long overdue recommendation, great guy, strong and determined with good ground skills and above all a safe and sane perspective on the sport. Off the mats a great guy with whom to socialise.
Nick's many friends on here will be delighted to know he is once again fighting fit
after undergoing major surgery.
In fact this is a new improved Nick, even stronger than before! His strength which has always been impressive is now phenomenal (Could not believe the difference today)! He also seems to have upped his wrestling skills
As before he is still one of the nicest & safest guys you can meet.
17th march 2012. Have known & wrestled Nick for quite a few years now. Is one of the nicest guys you could meet. In the past when we have wrestled the result has been fairly even. Not any more this guy is now in the premier league.
3 October 2015. long overdue with this handsome brute of a man. Tanker by name and Tanker by nature in the ring. Very experienced and a classic pro grappler there's always a great sense of fun behind the forearm smash so that you never feel anything but completely safe even when being crushed against the post. Thoroughly enjoyed the match and look forward to more.
finally got to get on the mats with David yesterday as part of a group meet. Big strong friendly guy who I'd happily trade holds with any time. Hope to get round 2 arranged one day soon.
October 2015- its been a few years years since I locked horns with Scotland's answer to Mick Mcmanus. ( Suppose with a name like Mcmanus Mick himself must have been of Scottish descent, just a thought I digress)
As many of you know Mr Ed is a tough cookie, strong skilled, a wrestling match with him is a tough but satisfying one (A real wrestling match if you like). We also had some laughs in the ring at Pippas today, especially when I showed this confirmed submission expert some pro moves. Great guy a must meet for all serious wrestlers.
20th Nov 2011- Met this Adonis of the mats yesterday. Very strong skilled wrestler, def one of the best I have met. A nice friendly guy to boot. Up for a rematch anytime
Good couple of bouts with a smidgen of pro thrown in. Clearly a skilled guy who was prepared to wrestle to my level and make me up my game. Look forward to another bout sometime soon :)
Don't be fooled by his self effacing manner & sweet smile. This is a fighter ! Strong, good defence & high pain threshold. Finding his feet at present, but when he does he will be a force to be reckoned with, especially with guys his own weight or lighter.
Friendly & easy to talk too with a gsoh.
Tanker had a horrendous journey here with road closures but, on eventual arrival, I plied him with food & beer, which I think improved things, & in the morning we were ready to do battle!
Tanker is a big guy, 45lbs heavier than me, but I think we were fairly even on the mats. However I was put on the defensive more than I might normally!
A nice guy on & off the mats and would highly recommend - if you think you can handle him!
Hopefully Dave will make a return trip sometime.
It began with a drive through the stunning Welsh countryside, Pete (Penguin in Welsh) lives in the county of Powys (The northern bit that used to be called Montgomeryshire) He very kindly let me stay with him overnight & is a very kind & attentive host ( He even has a Teasmaid in the guest bedroom, a proper retro one too with a flower pattern, am debating whether to buy one myself) & made me a meal on my arrival, as well as numerous cups of tea for which I was very grateful. From the start we got on really well & he has a good sense of humour a perfect gent, tho I was slightly disappointed he did't have what I call a real Welsh accent, was hoping for a Richard Burton job lol.
He lives in a lovely cottage, by 2 rivers in a wood filled with wild flowers & has what looks like a farm building, but is in fact a large purpose built mat room of which I am rather envious.
As you can see from his photos he is a bit of a muscle god & from our conversations I knew he takes keeping fit very seriously, so I was in for a tough fight.
After breakfast & Pete had decided which of his many singlets he was wearing, we locked up, initially his extra power paid dividends & he quickly got 2 submissions, but as I got used to his technique, I began to pull some back to the extent that he began to mutter about my height advantage, to which I pointed out he had a considerable muscle advantage lol.
In total we fought for about 3 hours & were well matched, both of us defended well & we took subs where we could. For me it was the perfect match tough & satisfying IMO a draw. At the end we were both knackered, Pete made lunch & I departed.
Had a great time, love to do it again. Def recommendation
Had met Dave several times in the past so a recommendation is long overdue. He's an imposing figure on the mats with strong legs and big firm torso but not overpowering or at all scarey. He's skilled and has got good pro moves. I have had good wrestles with Dave, and hopefully we'll have a lot more.
Not sure how it happened but an earlier recommendation I wrote for Ken seems to have vanished.
He is the perfect gentlemen, really nice guy, easy going & friendly, have met him several times. He is what I call a proper wrestler, fit, skilled , well built. Who can instinctively counter any move you might care to make, without really thinking about it, leaving lesser mortals like myself envious of his ability.
If you get the chance do meet him, you won't regret it
Finally we did battle for the second time. Was a tough exchange but safe and sane. As previously a great guy on and off the mats. Really enjoyed it roll on round 3
Dave came over from the UK to stay with me for a section of his USA trip!
Great guy and a great addition to our American wrestling Family! Traveled over with me to Staten Island and jumped right into a huge pile up on the mats!
Always pleasant and always trying to make things go smoothly and are Fun and entertaining!
He would make me blush too much with his Compliments, but they did feel nice too!
I look forward to visiting him in the UK, hopefully Very Soon!
What can I say? Glenn very kindly put me up in his apartment ( Which is like something out of a Woody Allen film, IE large, sunny, stylish, filled with books & dvds) in Manhatton FOR 5 DAYS!!
He is a lovely , kind , hospitable , easy going guy, with a good sense of humour. Who also arranged for me to go with to NIckz 's wrestling party on Staten Island with him & took me to a couple of other parties in NYC with his friends, as well as showing me his favorite bits of the city. We also watched a number of Dvds together.
As a wrestler he is one of the best I have met. Very strong ( vice like grip) Has a background in taekwondo &Judo. Very accomplished, skilled & technical wrestler. Light years ahead of moi.. Very happy to coach & is a very patient & encouraging one. Safe & sane , great physique. You get the picture?
I have just had 5 of the best days in my life. Thanks bud
Enjoyed wrestling Tanker at Memorial Day wrestleBBQ. Nice guy, good match, looking forward to a rematch sometime.
Nick is a very nice person and a welcoming host., with a good sense of humour. Earlier this week I attended a wrestling party & barbecue at his house on Staten Island. It was a lot of fun in a nice relaxed atmosphere.
As a wrestler he is one of the lighter guys, but as many of us Heavyweights know to our cost, size is't everything! He is very strong fast & skilled. Once your caught there is no escape! I think he would give most guys on here a run for their money. Thanks again Nick had a ball.
Met Dave and booked the ring for a match, but unfortunately he was not feeling great and we really did not get much wrestling in. Very nice guy, enjoyed meeting him, maybe at some point we'll get a another shot at a match.
Uwilltap very kindly arranged for us to wrestle at the pro ring in Fort Lauderdale. Tho the match itself was to be sub. However on the day I woke up feeling decidedly unwell & could hardly move my arms. However it passed. Met Rob & went to the ring. During the car journey felt sick. But was determined to continue but Rob agreed to go easy on me. The facilities are excellent btw.
He is a very fit strong skilled wrestler who has trained in Bjj tho he kept it my level. We wrestled for about 20 mins. Then I had to quit. Rob was very understanding about it. We went out to get something to eat and had a very enjoyable lunch. He is a very humorous guy & good company. Feel really bad about being such a wimp after the trouble he went to. Def recommendation as a wrestler & a person
Met up with this fella at Clash 2015 in Atlanta. Great guy outta the ring and one tough pro in the ring. Super fun and creative in the match. Got to hang out with him between matches and a really nice guy. I hope our paths will cross again for a re-match!
Slater aka Jason is a very nice friendly guy who I met at Clash of Titans event in Atlanta. He very kindly gave me a couple of lifts from the venue to eating places round Atlanta. We also had some very enjoyable discussions about cultural differences between USA & UK.
He is a very skilled & well dressed pro wrestler, in fact has won the award for best dressed wrestler at clash 2 years running. Safe & sane def recommendation.
I met Tanker at the Atlanta Clash of the Titan where I had one tag-team match and one individual match with him. He adjusts his moves quickly as the match flows and strikes smoothly when the situation permitted. He is talented and strong and has a demonstrated flare in the ring.
He is an intelligent, personable gentleman with a quick wit and a great smile and laugh off the mat. We discussed many subjects of the similarities and differences of our two countries.
He accommodated for my shoulder injury and graciously worked in the gut punches I like so well. I look forward to our next meetings.
If you happen to come across a tall distinguished looking grey haired quietly spoken American gentlemen from Georgia. It may well be gutpunch.
Don't be fooled. He is ex elite Us Military & he has forgotten more about martial arts than you & I will ever know. He is very strong & skilled , fortunately for yours truly he was in a playful mood when
we met at Clash.
Really nice interesting guy to talk too. Safe and sane Def recommendation.
Just one thing Jon , get yourself a decent photo , the horror you have doesn't do you justice SIR!
Oh what a great guy on and off the mats/ring is Tanker. He made me feel welcome and joined me in a unplanned 2 on 1 pro match. My first pro match ever. We then took to the mats for some submission wrestling. He is very strong and no push over. He didn't turn into a cry baby when my thumb made contact with his eye. Every now and then during combats, unintentional things happen. He was a great sport about the matter. A great guy that I hope to meet again.
Loved meeting & wrestling this guy at Clash of Titans. Again in a group that had a very high standard of submission wrestlers he stood out for his strength & technical abilty. (Tho we also had a 2 on 1 pro match against poor Harley).
Very nice friendly guy safe & sane & a good coach who gave me some good advice on breathing
What can I say that has not already been said in Tankers other recommendations?: I guess I'll just have to be repetitive. Tanker is Big, Strong, Handsome, Funny, Skilled, Nice, Intelligent, Big, even better looking with gear on, Strong, Polite, Handsome, Tough, Honest, Versatile. Oh did I mention strong, and handsome and a Big Hunk?? His pictures don't do him justice. I hope I get to wrestle Tanker again, and again, and again....
El is another big friendly American wrestler. We met at clash & again its someone I have spoken to online who it was good to meetin person
Phyically he is imposing & very strong. We had a pro match. From what I saw he is an accomplished sub wrestler too. Safe & sane. Great collection of gear. RECOMMEND
tanker is a great wrestler very knowledgeable in move and holds def knows his way around the ring was a great pleasure takeing him onj in the ring at the clash very friendly guy and very flexiable as far as heel or jobber i highly recommend him to anyone
This man had me the moment he walked in. Tall, dark, and charming. I saw him and melted. I then proceeded to put on every move I could! We had some wonderful chatting, and with so many friends in common, I just knew I'd get him on the mat soon.
He was quite game to be my tag partner in the pro show, and despite politely declining my first offer for a solo match, I noticed that he smiled and bounced his tremendous wit off of me. He seemed to have a lovely time in the pro show and genuinely enjoy himself. Soooooo, I figured I'd try again. Alas, a solo match was not to be. I sniffed my pits and checked my nose for unsightly boogers.. There had to be a reason....
Dinner across from him with fantastic conversation fed my courage to try once again. I mean, for a man this strikingly handsome, why not? My shot went wide, and I resigned myself to leaving clash having made a friend, even if I couldn't get him to wrestle me. I mean, let's face it, we all have switches, and just because he was flipping mine like mad didn't mean I was even close to the wall his were on...
I showed up on the last day to wish everyone goodbye, and in walks this man, who I thought had already left for his next destination. I smiled. He said hi... And then a miracle happened... He said some sentence, most of which I missed, but I knew I heard "you" "mats" and "match." My heart began to pump so hard that I could feel my earwax melt. I waited patiently as he finished his other matches, and then I was to learn that he had written a second recommendation for me, because his first explained that he was somewhat intimidated by me, but he didn't want to give people that impression. Tanker was my final match of clash 15, and it was well worth the wait! This man had been choked, twisted, kicked, slammed, and clutched all weekend. As sore as I was, I knew he must be in some pain. We took it slow, and the exchange of strength and skill was terrific!!! Ok, so yeah, he told me he knew I let him take the victory (as I think he was the only submission match I lost that weekend), but I enjoyed this man's presence, his beauty, and his mind so much that I didn't want to go for a quick win and out the door. I wanted to enjoy a match with a good struggle of man vs man. He must have sensed that, because he shifted and we enjoyed that slower paced match between two battered opponents.....no... Friends.
I'm proud to call this man a friend, and I'm even more excited that we had a truly fun match. He's strong, but gentle. He is quite skilled, but lacks any form of attitude or ego. A true gentleman, who I dearly hope to see again one day.
Lovely guy. As the Teddy Bears he & I were Tag Team partners this weekend at the Clash of Titans in Atlanta. We also had a match together, he is a strong, skilled opponent . Probably the biggest and best muscle bear I've met and in an event that had a very high standard of wrestling he was one of thee best he does both pro & sub. very safe & sane.
Very caring thoughful guy with a good sense of humour
Tanker was a lot of fun to wrestle with in the ring. He has a great and powerful body. His wit is just as deadly as his holds and terrific personality off the mats. I highly recommend that you take on this handsome brute.
I met Dave as he kindly offered to show me some moves as I sm starting out in wrestling , I found Dave easy to get on with , keen to help me learn and he was a very patient man , we shared a few moves with a few laughs but I believe I learnt something from my visit and look forward to the next meet , I couldn't recommend tanker enough he is a well mannered and easy to get on with guy , many thanks once again buddy .
Beefy is new to the sport (In fact I think I am his first opponent) He is a nice friendly laid back kind of guy. Who was easy to arrange a meeting with& turned up as agreed. At his request we did't actually have a match, I showed him the ropes, but could tell he was a very strong guy because of the physical nature of his job. He felt quite heavy for 15 stone, I think that is due to his body containing muscle rather than fat, again due to his work.
As with all GENUINE beginners he is little tentative, worried about injury, but when he applied moves I could see he has the makings of a formidable opponent with his size & strength. Def recommendation, hope we can meet again
Meet roundtwo2 at Pippas yesterday, it was at the start of the afternoon & I was looking for a nice easy warm up match, there is quite a size difference so I was careful not to go in to hard……….. However Round two had other ideas, he is quite a fighter wiry & strong, very fit, excellent stamina & defence. A nice guy, safe & I recommend him
Its been YEARS since I was able to face up to this heavyweight on the mats! Chance came yesterday at a group meet in Barnet! Honours were even I reckon! BUT this guy has developed his skills since we last met up and is a real monster on the mats. Weve agreed we need another meet! SOONER THE BETTER!
No idea why I haven't done this before! Tanker is an old wrestling foe LOL! He looks great in gear and is tough in the ring or on the mats. He's thoroughly reliable, strong, safe and sane. he has lots of experience and is a fun guy to be around. WRESTLE HIM!
As he said its been years, dad has lost none of his enthusiasm for the sport. He is a skilled strong and agile heavyweight who can hold his own against the best of them. As a person he is very funny, sociable guy who wants to wrestle everyone in the room. I was impressed by his fitness & stamina & asked him about his regime, it is unorthodox … ie. there is't one. But it certainly works (He was constantly on the mats, in fact possibly spent more time on them than anyone else present & there were some young guns at the meet)
He was first person who ever challenged me to a wrestling match & I still remember the excitement I felt that day 10 years ago when I received it.
If you don't like coming to the meets & your fed up with people wasting your time with the usual lame excuses & cancellations , or a foreign visitor with limited time, want a safe, sane, genuine submission bout with a heavyweight opponent c/w heel tendencies, give him a shout. He won't let you down.
Well this is one of the great Characters of British Wrestling, big strong skilled , a heel from central casting(But safe & sane)
He used to be called Mauler Paul which perfectly describes his wrestling style & I think he should still use that name ( its just so HIM!! LOL) When I first started out, he was one of the people who befriended & encouraged me & is one of the nicest & funniest people you can meet. He won't waste your time. you must wrestle him.
Never realised I hadnt put a rec on for this not quite north eastern wrestler!
I met him early in my wrestling days and was intimidated by his stocky build. Hes still bigger than me but I gave it a good go the other day.
His new wrestling persona as father christmas complete with beard is obviously intended to make him less fearsome ! Lol
Friendly bloke and good to talk to
Its always nice to renew old acquaintances, first met Gary several years ago when he was starting out & have't seen him since, tho we have occasionally chatted. He has become a good solid wrestler & is a nice friendly guy, safe& sane. I enjoyed our bout. Def recommendation.
Enjoyed a quick bout with Tanker at Pippas - knows his stuff and had me pinned in the end but good grapple. Friendly guy and I look forward to a fuller session soon.
04.04.2015 Another great prowrestling match with tanker and was really intense and rough. Is very good in prowrestling and good heel but Dirty (im joking).
I had a pleasure to meet him for a second time at pippas event.I couldnt forget his wrestling
We had a great promatch on a ring and was really incredible.
He has a great experience in a ring and i think is one of the best
Ragazzo is becoming a welcome regular at the group wrestles in the UK.
No boy this, def a man. Struts around Pippas taking on anyone who crosses his path. Kilo for Kilo one of the best wrestlers on here. Had a tough, but fun pro bout on Sat. Safe & sane. Take him on & enjoy
Mamma Mia !! Many moons have past since I last wrestled my favourite Italian. This time we did pro & I had so much fun, but also a good wrestle. Last time it was submission & he is very fit & skilled at that too.
Ragazzo is a lovely friendly guy, today he organised the England v Italy match at Pippa's in Manchester. It was done at short notice, but had a good turnout & being on a Sunday attracted people who can't make the Saturday sessions. Ragazzo was a good host, who made a point of trying to wrestle everybody there. Thank you for a lovely afternoon. Your first event but hopefully not your last. Def recommendation for you & your event
Had a really good fight with Tanker. He is a fun guy, and can be a very mean heel. :) he is really good at pro wrestling & I would like a rematch.
Look at the stats! Big powerful guy. ideal physique for wrestling. Background in weightlifting. He is finding his feet. Would advise you to fight him before he does. Because I reckon once he does, he will be an awesome fighting machine. Nice quiet guy , easy going. Definite recommendation
A real gentleman, in and out of the ring.
Strong enough to have a good match, and with good skills in submission wrestling, that if he improves a little more, he will be a real tough guy. Better in defence than attacking, and he really knows how to use his weight....I enjoyed wrestling with him....I will wrestle him again in the fistr opportunity.Well done Dave
There is something of the cultured philospher/ warrior of ancient Greece in Yannis. Very nice intelligent guy with a good sense of humour. Tall & well built with great legs (Esp the thighs)! Also has a long reach, which as I discovered is a very good thing to have!
He is a trained BJJ fighter, one of the best I have met, very strong , his submissions are painful & effective, he does it all so effortlessly. I was totally outclassed & outmanovered, but I think I gave him a good workout. At one point we did some body punching & man can he punch! (He has also trained in Kickboxing, which had't registered when I read his profile & after a couple of punches I had had enough lol) We did a little sumo style wrestling & despite a considerable weight advantage I went flying across the matroom.
It was a real privilige to meet Yanni & am very grateful to Nico (grjobber) for bringing us together & letting us use his mat room. Def recommendation, he is safe & sane & will fight at your level. Hope we can meet again. Finally is a very good massuer
Tanker is really what his name stands for. A big big guy who fill the matroom with his presence and leave so little space and moves to his opponent. I had a wonderful pro match with him. Full of fun, energy and a lot of moves! He lifted me so easily and felt what bearhug means... He knows how to use his weight as weapon in the battle and many times I felt so small compared to him! I recommend him and surely will be one of the guys I ll fight again!!
If you have ever wanted to wrestle a real Greek God come to Athens & fight Musclechris. Powerful guy with skin like marble & an iron grip like a vice, there is no escape once its locked on. As you can see he has great physique (Would look good in a toga) & is a nice guy who it was easy to arrange a meeting with. He is a tough opponent, with lots of energy & bounces round the mats like Tigger in Disneys Winnie the Pooh, he is also a lot of fun. Recomended
Met David on athens during his trip here some nights before during a dinner with mutual friends and then we arranged a meeting. He is strong with great stamina and a killer sumo move. Off the mats he is a funny and loving guy with a great sense of humor. If you have the chance to meet him don't miss it
Met Kostas through gr jobber matroom. He is a lovely guy , very funny & we spent a very nice afternoon drinking coffee, gossiping & eating grjobbers biscuits. As a wrestler he is a strong fit guy with good stamina who you can get down , but cannot subdue, very stubborn, perhaps the epitome of Athens itself ! His photos don't do him justice. He modestly describes himself as adorable & its true ! He turns up on time without any fuss. Def recommend
Tank is a very kind and honest guy that warmed with his wrestling skills and mentality a cold greek afternoon of mine. I knew from the very beggining that he is a big and strong guy, so it was clear to me that I didn't really stand a chance against him. But.. what the heak. Better for me. As a greek I should know what the wrestling philosophy is all about and I must say that Tank is a pure carrier and transmitter of this global ideal - ex aequo, though not being of greek origin. This is how a dull and hateful Sunday evening becomes interesting and challenging. Grazie Tank, Il bambino after_8 :-P
Was a great pleasure to meet after8. Nice friendly guy with a good sense of humour. Was't really in the mood for a scrap (it was a cold night) but his warmth & good looks changed my mind!
As a wrestler he is far better than he gives himself credit for. Fit, strong, good stamina, good attack & very good defence skills. Although he seemed a bit nervous, in the best wrestling tradition he got stuck right in. Tall well built guy, very nice thighs, looks good in gear. Our fight was brokered by the Grjobber promotions agency & I understand from the general manager After8 is a very easy & straighforward person to arrange a fight with. Def recommendation, happily meet again.
Great to meet up with Dave again after a few years break. He is safe and reliable for sub or pro work, adjusts happily to his opponent 's pace and looks absolutely the part in the ring, great to watch as well as wrestle.
Tank is a strong wrestler, I did not stand a chance. I could see that he has lots of experience in the ring. I though I could put a few past him, but not this time. I need a bit more staying power to last the distance. All save and sane as it should be. I'll be back.
A brilliant actor. Was treated to a masterclass of someone masquerading as a nervous beginner. Even though I am usually very suspicious of such claims & despite the tree trunk arms. I fell for it. (The secret was he did't overdo it lol )
Imo this is a fit strong, stocky, skilled grappler. To be fair a very nice guy & once I got the measure of him I enjoyed our bout. A good submission wrestler who is especially good at the counter attack, safe & sane. Would make a good heel.
Tanker and I had a great pro session at the Wrestling factory. He understands well how to do pro and has the right attitude with a good mix of aggression, determination and fun. I am at a loss as to why we have never met before but our match today was a joy amd I shall be certainly be coming back for some more. I need to pay him back for his inadvertant comment that suggested I might be over the age of 50! Sleep with one eye open Tanker!
Carl's profile is one I have been familiar with for years, but our paths have never crossed until now at the England vs Italy Event at Pippa's Manchester.
We had one of my best ever pro sessions, he is great fun, very skilled ,good stamina, safe & sane, cuts a fine figure in his trunks & boots. Very nice fella too. We also had a 3 way Battle Royal with Ragazzoboy (Ie everyman for himself) With the wrong opponents such a match could easily go wrong, not with those two guys. both very skilled & sensible…. Shame its taken so long to meet , hope we can do it again. Def recommend.
Ps(In response to ur rec )Am mortified. You sure I said that ?? Usually very careful about peoples ages You don't look a day over 35 Carl honest !!! Please don't scare me !!
Very friendly bloke that's easy to converse with and puts you at ease. We had a short match at a Pippas meet which was a very enjoyable mix of tumble and conversation. Look forward to the next opportunity.
Very nice friendly smiley easy going guy, with wholesome clean cut good looks! But don't let that fool you, he is also a tough, determined, skilled, strong, fit wrestler who knows no fear & who can take a lot of punishment, then launch a surprise & effective counterattack. Very good stamina. Safe & sane. One of the few guys who looks good in a singlet. Really enjoyed our match. Recommended
I met Dave at Pippa's this weekend after long sporadic exchanges with which he'd been very patient. We didn't have a lot of time having both come through some quite hard bouts earlier, so we just had an easy-going grapple. Which spared me, as Dave's clearly very powerful and skilled, as his recs testify. I look forward to having my work properly cut out when we get our real bout. He's also a complete gentleman and very kind, generous company.I hope we can meet again.
Been Chatting to Neil for a while, finally met yesterday courtesy of the Matworker wrestling event at Pippas's. He is a nice friendly easy going guy, who I very much enjoyed spending time with. Because of our size difference & the fact that we had both had some tough scraps earlier in the session, we had a very nice civilised give & take session, with no nasty rough stuff! From what I saw he is a skilled wrestler, who is safe & sane
Meet at the Wrestling Factory in Manchester and had a good match with him. Had a good amount of strength and controlled aggression and was a short but good match.
Would definitely recommend
Tall well built guy, fit & strong. Had a short but tough & satisfying match on the mats at Pippas. He is a friendly easy going guy, who looks out for his opponents(Gave me good advice about muscle cramp) safe & sane. judo background, so grappling without a suit is new to him, but once he gets over that, watch out, he will be good. Def recommend.
I met DAVE for 3 days and it was a great surprise ; I met a real gentleman . he looks great in his gear and it inspired me ...we had several sessions of wrestling and he can surprise you by some sudden tough unexpected hold and assault to make you fall down on the ground - he can be suddenly rough and competitive .. we had many rounds when i faced a man really fighting to win ( as I do ) Dave is a great company outside the mats ..... he s interested in you and makes you feel very comfortable right away and helped me to feel relaxed in a wrestling group where i didn't know any one
The Ultimate Bear. Shock & Awe in Manchester
I have tried to be concise here, because as real man Patrice is a bit dubious about the value recommendations, but as usual the curser has run away with me! Till next time my dear friend Merci beacoup & adieu
01/12/14 Teddy was passing through London and obviously all his hot offers had fallen through so he turned up on my doorstep demanding honey and porridge. I managed to provide a cup of coffee and a nice slow wrestle. Carrying on his usual tradition of insisting that I felt heavier on top of him than the twenty stone guys he had wrestled I was forced to carry out a weigh in and although slightly over the 13.5 stones on my profile (heavy weekend) i was pretty close. Now teddy was a little more than his stated weight but did I call him a liar or moan when he was lying on top of me, oh no, well I might have moaned a bit but that was pleasure. Lovely big man mountain, great way to spend a morning.
21/06/14 having met tanky at pippas a few weeks ago but not having actually wrestled (he had to leave early as someone scratched his fluffy ear) when he said he was coming to London and did i want to meet I thought why not. Short term memory syndrome. The nightmares involving being lost in a dark wood and hearing growling in the distance had faded. Luckily on a hot day we both subliminally agreed to have a nice gentle wrestle, tried out a few holds, did a little nipple hunting and generally took turns to be mean to each other. More playing with a teddy bear than wrestling in the woods. We won't mention his assertion that i am more than 14 stones and in his opinion closer to sixteen. I'm not bitter. The fact that he couldn't move me when I had him pinned I prefer to think of as more down to my skill at using my FOURTEEN stone than his assertion that I was LYING in more way than one.
Having wrestled we had a nice tourist walk, with highlights including, crossing the millenium bridge without pushing him off it, passing the high court without getting him locked up and having a very nice meal where i discovered the bear pulling technique. Any good looking waiter, barman or manager was asked for detailed receipes of anything we ate. Unfortunately they didn't have a clue but top marks for effort. Drinks and music then home. Great day and apart from his problems with eyesight great guy.
30/03/14 Second meet and public transport was behaving well unlike Tanker. My memory of him being a nice cuddly bear was quickly dispelled by the new big bad bear. Not that I want to use the word - rhymes with eating, starts with ch, but there were definitely some dirty tactics going down. How could he to a beginner i ask myself? But despite (or ok partly because) he was being a tad world of sport heel we had a very enjoyable afternoon wrestling and chatting followed by a big bear meal in town. Now i think next time we meet I might have to ask for an apology, particularly for questioning my 14 stone weight when i was gently lying on him - some bears have no manners x
Having smoothly traveled several hundred miles down from Yorkshire Dave experienced the wonders of weekend public transport in London, not only was the Northern line having its regular part closure but the Piccadilly line decided to break a track so we had the joy of a replacement bus to High Barnet. Still, Dave enjoyed seeing the sites of the suburbs of London and it gave us a chance to have a nice chat and what a pleasant guy he was until he hit the mats.
Like a vision from the days of WOS Dave cut a fine figure in his boots and trunks and had the strength and attitude of a good old fashioned heel. If only I had a brought a granny or two with me to swing their handbags from the sidelines and hurl abuse at him, the scene would have been set. Now Dave may write some nonsense about how i was the dominant heel and he spent a great deal of time trying to convince me this was the case after, however I feel the evidence of my bruised and aching body suggests otherwise. Great wrestle with a big strong hairy guy (I was only joking when i suggested I had discovered a yeti honest) and that was only in retaliation for his suggestion that my stated weight of 14 st 2 was not entirely accurate. For anyone in doubt a pre-match weigh in is perfectly acceptable.
So after being yeti mauled we took the long journey back into town and had a suitably large meal for two hungry big men. Why you may ask would I want to spend time with a guy who had so blatantly broken all his assurances about being gentle with a beginner, well i think they call it Stockholm syndrome. But seriously he is good company and we had a lot of laughs. If you want a real taste of the WOS experience with an amusing guy then Dave is your man and when I find a referee and a few handbag swinging grannies I will be happy to go for round two.
Shocking!!!! never vist London without factoring in a scrap with one all my all time fav opponents. He feels like an old friend, but in fact its just over a year since the first vicious beating he gave me. Yes I can confirm Stephen's weight is 13.10 st. I apologise for ever doubting it. Also like to point out I did not demand porridge & honey when I arrived at Stephen's Penthouse (Nor was I offered it) But still had a very nice cup of coffee. Was also introduced to Stephen's cats. ( One of whom stuck his claws into my leg & winked at Stephen as he did it)
We digress , eventually the cats were kicked out. I found myself trapped under sir, all 13.10 of him, honestly feels far more like 20 st plus!, could hardly breathe, but was on the whole it had a nice gentle match on this occasion. Not sure I appreciate being described as a " Man Mountain" especially as the night before a very nice young Persian man told me with a straight face I only looked 32 & claimed to be astonished when I told him my real age! Hugefan btw has touch of Dr Who as played by Matt Smith about him. He is a lovely guy, excellent wrestler & if you could be bothered reading all of this recommendation to the end, am sure you realise how much I enjoy our meetings
PS Noticed a couple of tennis trophies on Stephen's bookshelves. Surprising for someone who claims to do no exercise.....
JUNE 2014- Its not just a wrestling match you get with Big tuff Stephen(Is apparently hurt by Maiden Aunt comment in earlier rec) But you get to go to a nice restaurant & tour of London thrown in. in our latest meeting on a boiling hot Summer's day at the Stockwell mat room. As he said we decided to not to do anything to strenuous & had quite a nice ( for sir) gentle wrestle. (Tho I was badly bruised ) followed by a walk over the Thames, past St Pauls , Down thro Fleet St (Treat for a newspaper addict like me) Thru Covent garden, to a Brazilan Restautarant for a meat fest, followed by dessert at a Tapas bar, followed by Bearoke( Karaoke) at the bears pub in Poland st) Thrown in with Stephens non stop wit.
As regards the long running saga of does he weigh 14 st or more. I suggested he hopped on some scales. For some strange reason he was reluctant to do this in front of me. Can't think why………..
April 2014 ..Second vist to Planet Hugefan, which is a cross between Alice in Wonderland & Doctor Who. The sole inhabitant appears to be a kindly gentle humorous soul who greets visitors warmly , tells them he is a beginner, does little of or no exercise, practises a gentle enlightened form of wrestling where no one gets hurt & he weighs 14st(196lb)………… But as in all the best stories things are not quite what they seem…..The bout begins, in the Barnet Mat Room (Always lovely & warm there, bit like being in the womb)The visitor finds himself in a vice like grip, he is suddenly aware of the strength in the well developed biceps, he is trapped in the lethal thighs which are sharp & stong enough to cut wood, the sort of thighs you only get through regular & sustained exercise….you are under constant attack , Huge fan is smiling at you in a kindly way, but is behaving like a vicious evil heel, he is on top of you squeezing the breath out of your body, I have had people of all weights on top of me, this feels like a lot more than 14st he claims to be. … but if he says he 14 st I accept he is…Blow this for a game of soldiers you think…. You begin to fight back in a similar manner, rather than a wrestling match it becomes a bit like a James Bond style fight of desperate hand to hand combat ( Great Fun Btw)…..
But your opponent is't happy, its seems you are breaking the rules, In fact you are CHEATING!! & he is very disappointed in you !! This is delivered more in sorrow than anger , it is quite a performance, a masterclass of the genre in fact, reminds me rather of a female relative of mine who likes to amuse herself by playing mind games with her 3 children. It was all great fun, afterwards we repaired to deepest Soho & tucked into a 3 course meal, then decamped to the Kings Arms in Poland St, & spent a cozy hour people watching. Had a lovely time thank you bud……. But will I be asked back ???
If you find yourself in London I strongly recommend you meet huge fan. Lovely lad ,has the sardonic Scottish Sense of humour, very good company & if my experience is anything to go by he will know a good restaurant to go to afterwards. He was very easy & straightforward to deal with in arranging the meeting (A big plus) But what is he like as a wrestler ?
Before we met, other people told/warned me about how strong he is in somewhat awed tones. The gentlemen himself was concerned to tell me he was a beginner, nothing too rough , was't any kind of gym bunny … When we meet at Kings Cross , he was very quietly spoken & when we shook hands , his was so gentle & ladylike it would 't have disgraced a maiden Aunt ! As we we entered the Matroom he said in his soft Lowland brogue " Now remember no rough stuff'" (Accompanied by a shy smile) " No " I said " of course not" Phyically he is taller than me , but slighter build, tho not skinny. I was not prepared for what happened next..…
Instantly when we locked up I realised he was far stronger than me , before you could say Ock aye the noo , I was on the floor, submitting to a vicious choke (Sir btw is never in hurry to release a good sub) A succession of subs all from me followed, mainly chokes & equally lethal arm bars, I think I managed to get one in this period. T hought you where a beginner I wailed . I am he said with a straight face . He then proceeded to do one of the best executed moves anyone has ever put on me, forget exact sequence , but was swiftly turned over locked in single leg bosten , all in a single movement & was submitting. All these moves were done in totally safe & sane fashion, another indication of his skill & I was never worried about injury. My enquiries into where all these skills, not to mention his strength had come from in such a short space of time , met with uncharacteristic reserve (Had he done wrestling at school, no he had't , never done any other form of martial art, no def not ) Obviously a quick learner! (Or perhaps he had been in the SAS or MI5 & was governed by the official secrets act!)
Indispersed between all these submissions we were happily trading insults & mimicking each others accents (His Yorkshire is rubbish , more Lancashire lol ) Really enjoyed our fight & Stephen is great company, hope we can do it again. But don't believe a word he says
Meet tanker the otherday at pipas in Manchester I know tanker for a long time he nice sound guy and a great wrestler to wrestle I would recommend him to anyone
Ian I go way back a long way , to the beginning of my wrestling career, When I first met him at The old Long Eaton mat room I was very impressed by the fact he was an ex pro wrestler. in those days he beat me! Think things have evened up a bit since then, but he is a fit strong, skilled tenacious opponent. Safe & sane Renewed my acquaintance with him At Pippas last weekend at John's meet. Really nice guy. def recommendation
I met David this week when I have bit of spare time from my training and after months of exchanging messages, but is worth the time. David is a nice lad to get along with, on and off the mats. And I am glad to make another friend that not just for wrestling only, is been enjoyable time even though is short.
Our wrestling were cut short due to the space and hopefully can make up next time in the mats room before I leave UK.
Nevertheless, I am glad to meet David and defo will be not the last one! Hope to catch up with him soon!
Daniel is a very nice polite thoughtful guy, very easy to arrange a meeting with. He has trained in Judo & Ji jittsu to a high standard. very fit & strong, safe & sane & a good teacher.
We met at my house which unfortunately was not ideal for our respective styles, so hopefully we will meet again in a mat room. That said I had a very nice afternoon with him , he is easy to get on with has a gsoh & speaks better English than yer average Brit!
For those who are interested in such things he looks good in speedos & underwear, great physique & is an all round nice guy. Def recommend
Tanker is a really stocky and beefy guy. After 2 hours of fighting his motivation is still intact. He's always trying to do his best and never gives up. This guy is full of energy and of course a very nice person. Beware for the next fighters I taught him new holds and he's a good student!!!
Judolutte is a lovely guy, easy going, friendly with a gsoh. He is also a very accomplished judo black belt. Never met anyone who can apply moves so quickly with so much finese. He simultaneously uses his arms & legs to lock you down, then using a 3" height advantage stretched me, then powered me into submission after submission, mainly chokes & armbars. Bit like an animal killing its prey!......But
is totally safe & sane, at no point was I afraid of getting an arm or a leg broken. Something I have feared in past fights with other martial arts guys.
In the flesh he is tall dark & handsome. With a body that could model swimwear! He very kindly picked me from my hotel & drove me to his dojo outside the city of Tours. We stripped down to our speedos, & did a mixture of submission, body punching & a sumo type game. He very kindly said I had given him a good workout . This experience was a real privilege. Would love to do it again. Afterwards met his partner at their house & he took me to a local bakery for something to eat. Struggled to convey in this rec what a great time I had.
Ps was very easy & straightforward to arrange this fight & it was done at short notice.
PPS. Judolutte has thoughtfully
pointed out that I did not mention the score. 1 sub to me , several subs to him. He beat me at sumo. Think body punching was a draw? Please correct me if I am wrong si vous plait!
I just met one of the strongest wrestlers since I have the chance to make wrestling. David is a strong wrestler, powerful, fast and skilled. My neck will long remember his destructive head lock. And he easily ejected me from the mat with his power and his strength.
If you feel able and strong to fight with a big, heavy and powerful wrestler, do not hesitate to challenge him.
Apart from carpets, David is a gentleman just like only britain can produce. Polite, reserved, respectful, and trying to master a language he does not speak. Highly recommended for all wrestlers from britain and elsewhere.
Meet Muscle Marc ze Terror of Toulon,
One of the nicest, kindest , funniest , most hospitable people you could meet. He very kindly gave me a bed for the night, insisted on taking me out for dejunier , really looked after me.
He has mats & we had a very intense ,tough & satisfying submission match at his flat. He is a muscle bear, very strong, with big ceps & thighs. He speaks excellent English, my abiding memories of him will be laughter, him saying " I do my best" & telling me to talk more slowly.
Def recommendation for this the best of Frenchmen.
Thank you for your recommendation, but that embarrasses me. The truth is that tanker a little exaggerated. About Your surprising and spontaneous visit I was happy anyway.
Because of the weight difference You were a special challenge for me.
But it was a lot of fun to compete with you the forces. You are very strong and have also experience of struggle. That's why I had to work very hard and we had a hard sweaty fight. Not to forget that you are a fair fighter.
Outside the mat You're a nice, sympathetic and understanding guy. My English is not the best, but we could understand us well. You are interested in many things, so we had plenty to talk about.
I wish you many successful battles on your tour of Europe.
Michael is a lovely guy. Perfect Gentleman & host, he is very easy going with a good sense of humour. Who very kindly gave me a bed for the night & insisted on buying me dinner & showed me round lovely Dusseldorf.
As a wrestler he is very fit, strong, skilled, safe & sane & a lot of fun. As with many of the regulars on Meetfighters he tells you he is not very good. That's rubbish! He has large mat room in his flat. What more could a guest ask for... Which brings me too.
He is also a very good looking guy with a muscular swimmer type build. Looks good in gear of which he has quite a collection!
This is a definite recommendation for a very special person. One day I hope I can repay him for his hospitality. Till next time Danke & Auf Wiedershen Michael
Ps As if he had't done enough for me already, Michael sent me on my way with a delicious packed lunch.
Tanker is a very nice and easy going guy, very flexible in style ,,from Sub to jobber heel, He is strong and enjoys to fight strong opponents. We had fun. Meet him and have fun as well )
No folks the camera does not lie. Meet Hermann the German muscle God & what a nice, friendly, laid back, safe & sane, humourous kind of God he is too. We did some submission, took turns playing heel & jobber, also did a little boxing. He has great legs & biceps & uses his powerful thighs to great effect. Def recommendation
Ps is a skilled wrestler, very fit & strong
Tanker... one legendary british wrestler. Intended to visit France and continental Europe, so I contacted him. Was absolutely not disappointed by the meeting(s), one in the city and for dinner, one longer for wrestling. Two main bouts. In the first one, I have the feeling I could do something; was greatly defeated in the second (with humour). Tanker, a charming bloke, a strong one (!), enjoying also travelling and nice food.
Hope I will have further opportunity to meet him (have to improve my skill before. lol)
French Fantasy in Nancy
After a week's hiking in the Vosages mountains in Alsace on the Franco - German border took the train to the Elegant city of Nancy capital of the ancient Duchy of Lorraine & Bar.
Met Enforme for a brief look round the city, then went back to my hotel.
Next day was fight day.
My opponent kindly picked me up from my hotel & took me to his large rambling house with an Apricot tree in its walled Garden, & a very gracious le chat.
Enforme is a lovely guy. Friendly, warm, gsoh. He is tall broad shouldered
& very fit. We wrestled solidly for about 3 hours. It was a hot sweaty bout, including sub, sumo & body punching. Enforme has very good stamina & high pain threshold. He has done Ji jitsu, so is a lot more skilled than he likes to let on! Afterwards he very kindly cooked me a delicious meal of sausages & sautéed vegetables(Ideal post match food). Def recommend. We will meet again. Very exceptional guy. Merci beaucoup Monsuier
Met this gentle giant at the Matroom Event in Yorkshire. I saw him take on a few guys as well as us having a tussle but due to an injury we didn't wrestle fully. Very enthusiastic and keen to learn and expand his knowledge. Would recommend you meet him 100%
Met Big Al at the mat room rumble on Saturday. Due to a slight injury on my part we only got a short tussle as part of a King of The mat competion(A competition Al actually won, defeating 2 "pros" on his way to victory) He is a very strong powerful man a bit like a Bulldozer on the mats , good stamina totally safe & sane.
As person he is a lovely guy, gentle giant easy to talk to , good sense of humour.
"TANKER" is a real tank and very nice friendly fun guy, he teached me how to do "Wrestling Pro" of course i have seen it on tv but i never thought of doing it myself but you know what: i really liked to fight this style, so thank you very much tanker for introducing me to this kind of wrestling!!!!
Geert is a lovely guy, very funny & welcoming, up for anything, very good wrestler (Judo background, think he said he was a brown belt & trains with a Dutch Champion, memory bit hazy, due to battering I received that night lol ). Safe & sane He runs the Fight club in Amsterdam. If you find yourself there do go along & have a scrap with this bunch of Jolly Dutchmen. The standard of grappling is very high (Got beaten in most of my fights) its a nice relaxed atmosphere, held in the church nightclub , the bar was open during fights , night I was there was a underwear party afterwards.
His nickname says it all, a robust guy! Though we had weight differences we had good, safe and sane match. Tanker is also a fine guy off the mat.
Not what I imagined Tanker to be like. He was a big guy with a soft center, the type that was scared of heights and spiders. Enjoyed spending time with him and enjoyed our two wrestles, he's very strong but I could be stronger! It was hard to wrestle in his tiny and somewhat expensive hotel room in the grand. Not only was it small but the lack of air con and the heat and humidity of the day meant that you sweat buckets after seconds if wrestling. I would highly recommend Tanker not only for a wrestle but as a friend too. After many disappointing meets from this site, it's nice to meet someone who is reliable and nice too.
Do meet this guy if you get the chance. He is the perfect host, went to a lot of trouble, took me round the local gay scene, showed me the city of Brighton, its famous Pavillion & a magical early morning walk on the Sussex Downs.
As a person he is a real live wire, very funny ( Should do standup), very kind ( Tho he pretends not to be) Born raconteur with a wealth of entertaining stories about his previous life in London.
As a wrestler he is skilled, knows no fear, is relentless in attack (tho safe & sane) looks good in gear. We were both pissed the first time we wrestled ( Which I think I might do more often!) Still we had a fair old scrap.
I had a lovely time. Thank you very much. Happily do it all again.
Ps was very easy to arrange a meet with HFB, no messing about
On a hot and humid evening in Brighton I met Tanker for a wrestle in his "compact" hotel room on the sixth floor. Needless to say we worked up a good sweat. I was outclassed in weight and experience: Tanker knew exactly where to place his centre of gravity to make sure I was going nowhere... AND he knew how to crank up the pain to ensure a few submissions. Nevertheless I was able to crank on a headlock to get one point back...
Tanker is good company, and we had an enjoyable pint before and after the match. I would recommend meeting him, but I know I'm gonna feel it in the morning.
Just met Brighton's very own Light Heavyweight Essex boy. Stuart is a very nice guy, gsoh , easy to get on with. He is a well built guy ( Broad shoulders & long legs) Looks good in gear.
It was very easy to arrange our meeting, no messing about & on the night of the big fight we we spoke on the phone & he asked me what beers he should bring I knew we were going to get on well !
When we met he was quite a bit bigger & more powerfully built than I expected. First we had a drink & chatted, then wrestled for about 2 hours in very humid conditions. He does't like to submit!. Is a strong fit guy, safe & sane, has good attack & defence skills. Afterwards we went out for a another drink. Def recommend, hope to meet up again in a mat room.
Tanker is correct in that it has taken nearly a decade to arrange the meeting in the ring through various different reasons however he was persistent (I am grateful for) and we did meet in the ring.
Firstly he is a great guy who is very genial and can chat about so many different topics. There were never any awkward moments of silence although his insults did come thick and fast which I then used against him during the session when working him over - but that's another story.
Tanker is used to more submission based wrestling but he agreed to take a step unto unknown territory (not that I gave him a choice!) and did some pro.
He was very willing to learn and took most things on board and tried everything with gusto. He is a solidly built guy and does have some strength behind and I am sure he will be a great pro wrestler if he meets the right guys going forward.
I'd happily recommend him to anyone.
Tanker & the Smiling Heel
There is a lot to recommend. Nice friendly, thoughtful, easy to talk to , gsoh. Looks good in gear (Looks good in day clothes too) Very strong, fit, skilled , good stamina, safe & sane. Patient with people who don't know their left from their right !!! Nice aftershave as well.
This meet was a long time coming. Contacted Christian the first week I discovered the joys of wrestling websites nearly 10 years ago. His photographs had absolutely nothing to do with my persistence lol . After a number of messages & chats over the years about a month ago we finally arranged to meet.
It was to be a completely pro affair. In a recent recommendation on this site, I was described (Unfairly Imo) as a Bad Bear. So I had a word with myself (Sternly) that this was Strictly pro no funny business. As we shall see this this was not necessary….
Before we wrestled Christian had to decide which of several singlets , speedos & sq cuts to wear, so I was treated to an impromptu display of wrestling chic, before a pair of Heel Black Square Cuts were chosen.
Once in the ring we agreed as the more experienced he would take the lead & found myself in a succession of Armbars bostons, scissors, postings, forearm smashes.
I learnt a number of things.
Pro is not a soft option. It is tough. though fun. You do have a proper wrestling bout.
Bout is more paced.
The subs hurt just as much , especially if you call your opponent a C**t & he takes offence.
You get more variety of holds.
Christian is someone I would happily meet again. took a lot of trouble to show me different holds & let me put them on him. He is a tough opponent, with his fitness strength & skills. had I been a naughty boy & tried some submission on him I would have been toast. . As a pro wrestler he is a definite heel, The smile on his face when he is twisting you into some devilish hold & the satisfaction when he snarls "ask him ref " says it all.
This has been a really difficult recommendation to write, one of my best wrestling experiences, one the best wrestlers i have met, have felt reading through it. i have struggled to put in to words how much I enjoyed it. Afterwards Christian dropped me off at the station, limped into Piccadilly with a smile on my face, caught a bloke's eye who scowled at me, smiled back at him, heigh ho Roll on the rematch, all's right with the world.
10:05:14 The Wrestle Factory, Manchester. Off the mats a really nice guy to chat with - on the mats a really nice guy to wrestle; certainly one of the "heavy brigade" but if you're a lighter guy don't let that deter you. Nice sense of humour too - had me well and truly pinned and uttered the immortal line "17 stone, in case you're wondering" - he was right, I wasn't going anywhere.
Looks like "an old time pro wrestler" but Dave seems just as at home with submission and certainly knows his moves.
I was lucky enough to meet up with the big man yesterday having only so far been to group meetings in Barnet - this was to be my proper initiation into one to one grappling. We booked the mat rooms in Barnet and met up at Kings Cross beforehand....somehow managing between the pair of us to arrive late (Andy, being the perfect "host" provider of the facilities was his usual accomodating self and told us not to worry).
I felt somewhat apprehensive as Tanker donned his black trunks and wrestling boots (I have never seen such long laces - you could use them to moor the Woolwich Ferry) while I donned my orange speedos (really must get some more gear).
At 17 stone he is approx. 7 stone heavier than me and a good few inches taller into the bargain (and if it was a contest of chest hair - he'd win that hands down too). Not to mention that he has a fair amount of wrestling experience and I am still an utter novice.
I needn't have worried (well not THAT much) as he is a gentleman (not actually meaning gentle - man) but he did respect my lacking in experience, bulk, weight, height etc. etc.and told me several times you should say "submit" (maybe he was getting frustrated that I refused to cave in right away once he had put me in yet another painful hold....but why would I, when I was enjoying being placed in that painful hold and kept there?
Neck scissors, sleeper choke, Nelson, crab, stretch and goodness only knows what holds he used on me...each one uncomfortable and painful and fanstastic.
Most of the time I resorted to my "default tactic"....pretend to be a hedgehog..!!! LOL ....Roll into as tight a ball as I can manage (and for as long as I can) before he managed to prise a limb away and work me over once again.
We did have several breaks (not bones...I mean rests) where we both flopped on the mats and chatted and joked - he's got a great sense of humour and although he reckons I chat too much he can "bunny" away just as good.
We had discussed before the meet up of going for a drink afterwards but as we had slightly over-ran owing to our late arrival at the venue (with Andy's permission of course) we decided that we would just head off our separate ways on the return tube journey.
Today I am feeling muscles aching in places where I didn't even know I had any....but have a great feeling inside me just the same. I sincerely hope that I wasn't a disappointment to him with my lack of expertise but I did give it my best shot.... honestly...!!! and I certainly enjoyed every minute of it.
Really hoping we have a re-match in the future when I may have got at least a bit more experience (then I won't need to do a sneaky head lock when he is sitting on the mat re-tying his bootlace in order to put him in a hold - against all the rules)..LOL Sorry about that one mate - but you did make me pay for that afterwards anyhow...!!!
A great guy to meet and totally recommended.
Had the great pleasure of wrestling daveylad on Saturday. Another of the Scottish Expats in London. Lovely guy, gsoh, fit & strong, plenty of stamina & a very high pain threshold. He is a beginner, but has good instincts, both in attack & defence (His "Hedgehog" rolling into a ball is an excellent defensive move, very Johnny Saint, wish I was flexible enough to do it lol) Despite being a beginner , he is no pushover. I imagine against somebody his own size he would be quite a handful. Despite our size difference I would meet him again, often with guys your own size it is simply a war of attrition, with Davy it was fun to experiment a little , Def recommendation.
Had a great afternoon wrestling with this guy, gave me a good sweaty workout, which I am feeling the effects of. Strong guy, difficult to handle, good attitude on the mats. Nice guy off them. A great meet.
Met Grapplewilts at the Rochdale Matroom for a one on one Heavyweight bout.
He is a Big Bear of a Man (Jovial Teddy Bear rather than grizzly in personality, tho very strong & good defence& attack skills) We worked up a a fair old sweat in the course of the 3 hours or so we wrestled & had a fairly full on body punching session.(With both sides drawing blood lol) Had a very enjoyable time with him, would meet again. Driving home over the Pennines my shoulders were aching plainly he gave me a good workout!
David is attentive and gentle wrestler, at least to a tyro like me. He first moved slowly to test my ability. Once he knew my limits, he wrestled me at my level. Yet my beginner’s luck together with some good advices from my ‘coaches’ (Rob & John) might have tricked him a little. :P It’s great fun with David on and off the mat. Thank you David, sure we will meet again in the near future. Sun x
Met Sun Today at Pippas , very nice guy, however I am a little suspicious of his claims to be a "Beginner" lol. I would describe him to be a fit strong, rather skilled opponent, who gave me quite a scrap is not afraid to go on the attack & has the means to do it . Totally safe & sane. def recommend
Meet this wonderful, socially apt and intelligent guy over the weekend. I heard about this experience and knowledge of the sport, but was still unsure what the outcome would be. Although I gained the upper hand and was stronger, Tanker certainly made me slow down, think about the submissions and enjoy a gentle wrestle. If your after a honest, gentle, safe and sane wrestle then Tanker surly should be your next opponent.
Phil is a lovely guy. Had a very enjoyable 24 hours with him. He is a very considerate & appreciative guest. As a wrestler OMG ! Expressions such as shock & awe, dominant alpha male, spring to mind! He is exceptionally strong, has wrestled some of the top wrestlers on this site & has absorbed a lot of skills & techniques from them. I had no answer for his strength & speed, this was hardcore submission . I was well & truly beaten.
met tanker a few times now and its always a good meet. We met today in Barnsley and we had a good wrestle. He is strong and knows plenty of holds. I have also been to his home and he is an excellent host. Well worth meeting and I look forward to another grapple really soon.
Have met Gareth about 3 times. Always enjoy his company, good person to chat to about the British wrestling scene, really nice guy & gsoh. He is a strong wiry fit wrestler, with good stamina. I think he is very brave to take me on given I am 6 stone heavier than him . Very reliable . DEF recommendation. Happy to meet anytime
Another cool wrestler that I meet during wrestling meeting in Manchester. Had good time with him on the matts. Even though there was a different in size and weight, I managed my way to pin him down couple times. Thanks man for you recommendation
David is a great guy to wrestle with lots of good holds.
He is regular supporter of the events I organise and very reliable.
Of course because he is a BIG guy pro is our prefered style and we have had some brilliant matches. Great on the mats or ring and a good guy off them too.
Dave is an unsung hero, stalwart & much loved character of the British wrestling scene, tirelessly arranging events at Pippas , Barnett & Nottingham, for which I for one am very grateful. Lovely warm friendly guy. In his time has been a Gymnast & Professional Wrestler & has considerable stamina, skill, as he says himself is a little powerhouse of energy, totally safe & sane. Def much overdue recommendation. Ps His sound effects are second to none !
Wrestled this guy four times at group meet today and was awesome, really nervous given size difference, but went at it hard and fast, one tough lad a real hard slog but was worth it , big and strong but held my own and then some highly recommended was a pleasure to wrestle with :-)
This guy is amazing! Great wrestler very skilled (Def no Jobber)Irrepressible, you might get him down but you won't keep him down. Never fought anyone with so much energy (Not Even Rob England). But loved every second of my (4) exhilarating scraps on Sat with Loch Lomand's finest. Am often wary of fast paced bouts because of injury risk , but felt totally safe with Jay
Nice thoughtful softly spoken guy off the mats, but a force of nature on them (Think Hurricane, Whirlwinds etc)- You should wrestle him . I want to again - Oct 2013 Had a give & take match with The Tartan Terror (I was feeling a bit fragile) Jay very kindly agreed to it, really enjoyed it, hope it was't to boring for you bud. Was good to catch up with one of the nicest guys on the circuit
After all these years I finally got to meet Tanker. Being bigger blokes we met at Rochdale, and it was a good job because we made use of every inch of it. Dave's definitely the better wrestler but we certainly struggled against each other strength wise. I am going to sneak off and learn a couple more moves because I am determined to have you pinned more next time mate ha ha.
Thoroughly recommend Dave if you are a novice or experienced, he's a really nice bloke when not wrestling too.
Rematch soon Dave !
Sept 2013 - First re-match. The giant lulled me into a false sense of security, having to stop all the time to get his breath, and to remind me of our age difference. I was almost taking him home to put him on a vitamin drip. But then the tide turned and he got me back big style, and the stamina returned. At one point we started towelling down only to start picking a fight with each other again, and we were back in the ring good and proper. Thank heavens for that. My fighting chum is still on form. What will happen at the next rematch ? Will I get my just rewards ?
Geoff was one of the first people I ever contacted & finally we met after about 8 years, worth the wait. Scouser is a big strong fit lad. Very nice guy except in the ring where he needs a firm hand or he'll ave ya! (As they say in merseyside) We wrestled which was pretty even , lots of grunt & groan & we Boxed which streetfighter Geoff won. In summary one of the nicest guys you can meet & want a rematch asap -
-SEPT 2013 ,2nd meeting with Big Hunky Scouser. (His photos don't do him justice ) It seemed he had been getting his portions of spinach in since our last bout & I was struggling. But then he pulled a dirty punch & an inner beast I never knew I had, awoke & roared & the tide turned. Great fight , one of my all-time best , with one of my favorite opponents.
This guy was satisfying to wrestle. He was strong and was a tactical wrestler. Safe, sane, reliable and was great to get along with. Def worth a meet as he comes highly recommended and would def meet again.
Really enjoyed my fight with Superfly. Or Black Beauty as I suggested he rename his profile. Or maybe Barbados Black Beauty in honour of his Birth place lol. ANYWAY!!!!! very fit strong skilled wrestler. Great physique , safe & sane, warm friendly, reliable Hope we can meet again
Tanker is a great guy off the mats and a fearsome opponent on them. We've wrestled a few times now and its always a challenging match. He's great fun.
Have known Chester a few years. Until last sat it been a while since we a wrestled . One nicest guys you can meet. Always get on well with him. As an opponent we are similar (Except in age & weight! ) He is a strong skilled wrestler , good physique, safe & sane
I have known dave also for a few years he is good to wrestle with and we have had great wrestling matches aswell.i cant wait to wrestle him again.
Have known Andy a few years. Big Tall Friendly Lad , Strong, genuine Heavyweight. He has improved a lot as his confidence has grown. Safe & sane. Always seek him out for a scrap a pippas. He is always open to anything so he is a good lad to practise with
I met Tanker during my stay in Manchester. We had a very nice wrestle match! Tanker is a strong, skillfull wrestler and a nice guy both on and off the mats. Really like to wrestle him again!!
Good guy, strong but safe wrestler. Good Recommendation
After many months of waiting finally got to meet Tanker! Wonderful gent! Great host and loved his hospitality and the chicken tikka meal he got me! Many thanks for that! Wrestling wise don't underestimate Tanker he is strong and can catch u of guard and watch out for his leg work! Once ur in one its hard to get out off! Very experienced and will definitely meet him again! A**
Can throughly recomend Zubby, Very strong, very tough fighter, great physique & an all round great guy to spend time & have fun with. I appreciated him making the journey to deepest North Yorkshire to meet me. 10 outta 10 for Manchester's Mr Muscle!
Tanker is a very powerful lad with good solid holds. Those legs are fearsome so avoid at all cost. Great lad too socially for chat and beer and definitely a recommendation from me.
a great guy to wrestle - experienced, competitive and very friendly and safe - always great to grapple
We finally met each other after many years of talking. Worth the wait :-) Outside the ring he is a true gentleman and a great guy to have fun with and spend quality time together. In the ring he is very very strong and skilled. He also likes hard matches ;-) You better challenge this big guy...
Have talked to Nikos for a number of years, finally got to meet him. He is one of the best wrestlers I have met. Very strong, very fit, he has trained in a number of Marial arts & it shows. You could not wish to meet a nicer or more hospitable person, great sense of humour & a great physique
A big powerful man, great to grapple with. very good attitude and sense of humour. Didn't get as much time with tanker as I wud have liked this time but that will be fixed next time. Def positive recommendation!!
Dave was a great help intorducing me to my first event and we were quite evenly matched when we fought, although I seemed to spend more of my time defending. Knows how to use his weight, but sane with it. Certainly given me ideas for next encounter and encouragement to attend further meets.
Finally got to wrestle Tanker whereby had a great session. He is strong and determined and once you are caught in his headlock there is no turning back. I'm sure I can spin it in my favour next time. David is a totally reliable friendly guy, well recommended.
I really enjoyed meeting Dave. Even though a bigger guy than me we had a really good match and it was very even as he adapted his style to suit. If you get the chance to meet him take as it as he is a great guy and very skilfull.
Pete is an exceptionally nice guy. Really enjoyed our grapple. Would recomnend him to anyone Hope we can meet again. One other thing, it was straightforward & easy to arrange a meet with him. Something I think we all know is a rarity and worth mentioning for that reason
Enjoyed a grapple with this formidable opponent who has much strength and bulk to make a this a significant challenge. Enjoyed this bout, made quite an effort and enjoyed our conversation after the match. Overall good guy.
Have talked to Corey on & off for a few years. Finally met last weekend. Enjoyed wrestling him (With a few light body punches thrown in) Very nice guy, excellent wrestler & not bad to look at either! Be very happy to meet again & would recommend him to anyone else
A very gallant wrestler; a pleasure wrestling with this big guy. Watch out for his big legs; 99% of guys will tap once your trapped between them. He is also a pleasure to converse with off the mats - but a mean bugger on them. Fully recommended 100%
Where do I begin writing a recomendation for the fabulous Wrestler! Spent a great afternoon with him. He is possibly the best wrestler I have ever met, one of the nicest & most fun. Really enjoyed his company. He takes no prisoners on the mat, but will wrestle at your level. Recomend him to anyone
Highly recommended. Great guy off the mats too.
I have known Dave for years, he's a warm lovable kind of guy, but also strong and looks good in wrestling gear, and is a good wrestler too, a sound guy and a good friend, I'd recommend him to anyone without hesitation.
Tanker..is a really good guy. Totally reliable.he is sane , safe and has a sense of humour.A big, strong guy who will really push you to the limit!!..lol..but was really happy to show a novice like me the ropes.CHEERS!!look forward to the next one...
A nice guy - met at Iain Scott's in South East London - had a quick grapple - both enjoyed it
A superb guy to wrestle! Strong, sane and really knows his stuff. Friendly and encouraging off the mats, determined and focused on them. Exactly at it should be, in my opinion. A great bout conducted in a great spirit. I cannot recommend this guy highly enough. His experience and better technical ability showed and he won our match by some way - but watch your back, big fella, next time you won't be quite so lucky!
Just had one of the most enjoyable wrestling matches of my 6 years career. Darren is a big strong guy. Very nice & friendly. He has't been wrestling long, but he gave me a real good workout & got me locked in some really good submissions (Which I had to submit to)Recommend him to anyone. A perfect 10 of an opponent & as a person
big strong guy, good fun to wrestle, genuine and reliable.
