Hi, I just wondered if anyone here has done any form of pro-wrestling training in a club or training school. I am thinking of giving this a try, but I do wonder if being over the age of 40 and on the small side (1.70 tall and 64 kg) makes this a good idea or not. I have done some Judo and BJJ, but I find them just not for me and am looking for something "a bit different". I am looking at this much more from the perspective of just getting fit, learning the techniques, and building confidence (not really in the sense of actually performing in shows). Sure, what harm can it do to give it a try, but I am just curious to hear from anyone who has been in this situation and given it a go - how did you get on?
Yep. when I was 55 I enrolled at High Spots Wrestling school. There were about 8 students (2 girls and 6 guys). The coach was a great guy. Some of you may have seen him on TV as George South. He was a very serious coach but insisted on safety in the ring. One thing prospective students need to know. You have to be in good shape and good flexibility definitely helps. The "bumps" wrestlers take (susplexes, and body slams) are exhausting. All in all, it taught me respect for those earning a living doing it and I hope this helps those who are thinking about give pro a try. Also, I love pro wrestling and I now know what moves I can do and those that I should avoid.
