Thanks for your responses! Yeah, I know, a lot of guys simply sign in to the main chat, then go private. It would be helpful to know when someone is actually there, for example some kind of activity or non-activity status flag. That way if someone's been signed for three days, and hasn't actually been interacting, people wouldn't waste their time trying to talk to them. I think a lot of sites have an "auto-boot" thing where a person is automatically signed out after so long.
One advantage to message relays is that each person can take as long as they want to make their response interesting, detailed enough to be realistic, and fun. At the same time, I'd love to be in voice/video chat, or maybe just voice if some prefer, hopefully with a few guys, so we could just plain chat, or come into the room with pre-determined roles, like good cop, bad cop, villain, etc.
Anyway, I'm usually around, and willing to help build or be part of a story, especially if I end up in the role of a villain or loser.
Feel free to message me with ideas on how to interact, or what might be fun for stories.
I agree with most of the said but with your comments about the chat room. Many of us enter chats just to chat one to one with another fighter so we don't even bother about the general chat at all. All the rest is true, in my view.
Much of what I see posted here are very brief comments, or generic interactions. I have an image in my mind of a bunch of guys in front of their screens, waiting for someone else to post something entertaining. I'm pretty guilty of the same thing, but once in a while I try to get a thread going that isn't a thousandth clone of someone else's posting. I realize not everyone's a gifted writer, but imagine if we were in the same room together. Wouldn't it be possible to collaborate or contribute something to a story or a role? "Back in the day," we'd keep a thread going for months, each participant acting out a part. Isn't there some diversity in favorite roles, such as good guys, bad guys, tough guys, losers, etc? Don't take this personally, it's just human nature. Even in live chat, it looks like almost everyone's waiting for someone else to say something interesting. So, what you end up getting is hours of, "Hello" "How are you?" "Fine, how are you?" "Good evening all." "Anyone wanna cyber?" "Hey guys." "Howdy." "Hello" "How are you?" "Fine, how are you?" "Good evening all." "Anyone wanna cyber?" "Hey guys." "Howdy." "Hello" "How are you?" "Fine, how are you?" "Good evening all." "Anyone wanna cyber?" "Hey guys." "Howdy..."
When it comes to favorite roles, I relate mostly to being a "loser," who deserves and receives a lot gut focused punishment. A while back I posted a scene in which I was caught stealing, but the responses were the usual few unimaginative words. Meanwhile, I'm wishing I'd see a bunch of guys gang up on me, and/or try to outdo each other in coming up with ways to work my body over while leaving my face intact, so I can't prove anything to the police.
I totally agree with you. The lack of imagination is scary. I had quite a nice chat, for a while, with a member of this group, but it petered out. Lack of daring, I suspect, on both sides. I have often wondered what it would be like to collaborate on really close to the knuckle story lines. But I am not sure that we would keep our nerve. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
