Outside the Brit Pro wrestling scene, Édouard Carpentier and Verne Gagne are amongst my favourite wrestlers. The following bout between these two is a treasure to behold for true fans who appreciate the art of pro wrestling (not the modern stuff).
Whilst I enjoy watching great wrestlers from the past in action all over again, I also love watching bouts involving lesser-known wrestlers. Recently I came across the following bout, which probably took place in Wales, in 1988. I believe Yanus (or Yavus) Selectman is of Turkish descent (he is the one in red trunks). I make no secret that I have no time for gimmicks or stupid storylines; I prefer to watch unassuming wrestlers in traditional or conventional wrestling attires, showcasing their array of wrestling moves and holds, like those in the following bout. My complaint is that this bout is too short for my liking, for I would love to see more of Selectman.
Sonny Myers was one of many American wrestling stars with great athleticism and film-star looks during the 50s and the 60s. Thankfully for the wrestling aficionados, Sonny could have easily carved out a Hollywood career but didn't. As the following bout attests, his wrestling style is a joy to be admired:
I have a suggestion for those responsible for running this site.
The 'Match Requests' section is currently closed, which is totally understandable, given the coronavirus situation. So, why not open a new section for those who would like to have
video chats? Instead of spending many fruitless hours via the site's chatroom waiting for a decent chat with someone, you can put out a request asking if anyone fancies a chat or a video chat at an arranged time. I am sure this would be beneficial for many of us here who live alone. Just an idea.
When I was in my early teens, every Saturday at 4pm I would watch British wrestling on my portable black-and-white television, with the volume mute, in my bedroom with the door shut. I recall that Caswell Martin was one of the regulars and that I was transfixed by his athleticism and his beautifully toned body. He deserves to get a bigger mention alongside the likes of McManus, Saint, Veidor, to name but a few.
