I was 22, 5’9 and weighed 140 lbs. My cousin on the other hand was just 15, but was an inch taller than me and considerably heavier, probably 170. I had wanted to wrestle him as soon as he was approaching my size, as he enjoyed playing a lot of sport at school.
My dad had just picked me up from the station and driven me home for the summer break, when we got a visit from my cousin and his parents. Our parents went off to talk in the living room, but Jason and I headed off to my room at the other side of the house to catch up on our latest news about school, sport, and so on.
He was trying to impress me, saying how good he was getting at rugby and that he’d been just selected for the school team. He particularly enjoyed telling me how he just lifted up his opponents by way of tackling them on the field, if they got in his way. So I seized my chance. I started to taunt him, saying it was easy to get smaller guys out of the way, but what about dealing with a grown up, like me? I thought he might be heavier than me, but I had harder muscles than him with the swimming and cycling I’d done.
He looked at me with almost anger in his eyes that I had dared to challenge him, but then started to smile. He gave me a friendly gut barge, and warned me that he was taller and heavier than me, that I would be no problem for him. I gut barged him back, a little more strongly than he’d done to me. He then tried to get past me, but I moved and blocked his way. Both of us smiling, he moved the other side, but I side-stepped and blocked him again. Then his smile dropped, as did mine, and we were both standing there, facing each other off. I could feel and hear his breathing starting to increase.
We suddenly grabbed each other by the shoulders, trying to push the other. Luckily I got a good initial grip, and despite his weight advantage, I pushed him back abruptly, so that he broke his grip, and stumbled backwards into the bed. But no way was he going to take that. With a flex of his muscles (like a most muscular pose), and an alpha-male groan (it was the first time I’d heard his voice so deep), he came at me with a very quick headlock.
His bicep around my neck was enormous, I could feel it as I tried pulling his arm to break the hold. I thought I could see stars it was so tight. So I stretched my body so I was standing upright, and in doing so lifted him off the floor, but his headlock on me was as tight as ever. I couldn’t keep upright for very long, before his weight and strength pulled my head down to his waist. With his free hand, he rubbed his knuckles on my head to show he wasn’t frightened of me. Still in his vice, he then threw me onto the bed.
I was a little dazed, but got up as soon as I could, got off the bed to face him where he was waiting. I made a grab for his neck this time, and was just pulling it into a headlock of my own, when he wrapped his arms around my ribcage into a bearhug. With another roaring groan, he tossed me up into the air, caught me again in a bearhug, and shook me from left to right like a rag doll. I couldn’t believe what was happening. I had dreamt of this for a long time, and I was getting just what I wanted. He stopped shaking me, and stood still, holding me firm with my feet still a foot off the floor. “No problem!” he kept saying with a smile, and then started walking me around the room in his bearhug to show he was bigger and stronger than me, and there was nothing I could do about it. “Remember when you used to call me little cousin? Well, I’m bigger than you now - little cousin!” he said. I must have been lifted up for more than two minutes solid, but it felt a lot longer at the time and one of my best experiences ever.
